Getting a website logo made. What files should I ask for from my designer?

Hi Guys,

I am getting a logo done for my webstore.

What supporting files should I ask for from the website designer apart from the logo itself, so if I have to make any changes to it down the line (say in, background color, text, size etc.) owing to any future tweaks to the website layout, I can do it easily.

Also, should I expect to pay extra for these files? I'll be hiring from Fiverr, if it helps.

Thanks!

    Hey Kumar,
If your getting work done from fiverr ask him to give you the high resolution original PSD or Ai file. The files will help you alter the image in whatever way you like. However if your trying to save money than ask him to give provide you the Jpegs and Transparent PNG's for future use. but remember you can edit ext and image only in the original files .g .psd or ai.

You need a format in vector (so you can rescale it to what ever you like without losing quality), I'm not sure about .g and .psd but .ai is vector. No you shouldn't have to pay extra.

      Thanks Sana and Orb!

I require the logo in png format with a transparent background, so if I change the color of the Header later on, the logo's background would seam in perfectly with the Header.

As I understand from your responses, I should ask for the logo in transparent png file and its .psd file (if done in Photoshop) or .ai (if created in Illustrator)?

      Thanks again for your help!

A logo should really be done in Illustrator instead of PS. I found this on Google

Can Photoshop make true vector files? - NamePros.com

If you really don't care about resizing it though I guess it doesn't matter. Get a .png at your preferred size and if you ever need any modifications, just give someone your .ai/.psd file.

    Hi Kumar,
    Ask for
300 DPI Layered PSD for print purposes
72 DPI layered PSD for Website purposes
and a Vector file for all purposes
