It depends on a lot of things.

    - Who is designing it (experience ect.)
    - What you are designing it in (flash, html, xhtml, css)
    - What you want on it (content, videos ect..)
    - Do you have your content ready?
    - Do you have all of your graphics ready?

If you have everything ready to roll, you know how you want it to look, you have your content and graphics ready, you could probably do it in a day.

Personally as a web designer, I could have it done from scratch in 2 or 3 days.

Hope that gives you a little bit of insight.

Some people that are not designers don't see the difference between Design and Build...

To design means come up with a layout, graphic position, page flow...

A developer takes that and builds the site... Some developers are able to make the graphics, while others are not.

If you are very general in your description to a developer about what you want, you can expect to get a general result... You may spend time (money) getting the developer to change things and rebuilding parts of it.

The clearer the design is given to the developer, the faster they are with a finished product...

Planning is VERY IMPORTANT for anything you want to build.... Just imagine walking into a manufacturing plant and saying "Build me a cool car"..... Well, what do you think you will get?

Now walk in and say I need a cool car that is safe, can transport my family to school, can be used to bring home all of the groceries from the store and be used to carry our luggage when we head to the beach...

Even this is a poor description, the builders at least have some better direction on what you want and what the end product will be targeted at.

People think very little about the target and how to drive the traffic....

The site has to be focused on something....

So, the question you ask is a hard one without the information needed for a designer to make those choices.... It could be quick or it could take a while....

Sorry.... My answer is as vague as your question... LOL

But after building hundreds of sites for clients, before I do anything for them, I sit down and ask them a pile of questions BEFORE a single line of code is started....

I refuse to waist my time or the clients money building things that in the end are not targeted at the market they want.

    Have a Great Day!

It really depends on how you want your website to look like. Some uncomplicated ones can be done in a day. Some would take weeks... even months.

Most any website given all info up front can be completed in a week - week and a half. On the other hand, it depends on # of pages and amount of javascript used. I built a site before that had about 50 pages, lots of backend database stuff and custom programming to update and feed a database. this site took a little over a month.
