This LIittle Trick Will SKYROCKET Your Facebook Ad CTR

I just recorded this short video showing a little trick I use to bump up the CTR on my Facebook Ads. This trick also works GREAT when you are trying to pump life back into ads that are dying from banner blindness.

I would suggest you start out with CPC until you find some ads that have high click-through rates. You'll spend a lot less money testing that way.

You say start out with CPC. What does CPC mean?

Cost Per Click. He is suggesting paying per click, it can be cheaper than CPM when testing ads.

Like Greedy mentioned above, CPC = cost per click.

I like starting out with it for a couple of reasons... the main one being that FB has to work harder to make money when you go the CPC route. With CPM, FB makes money for every permission, so they don't have to do anything on their part to help your ad garner clicks (so they can put your ad near the bottom or in front of people playing FarmVille; those people would never click an ad, they are too into their game).

Start of with CPC and try to bid within the recommended bid that Facebook gives you.

If you still aren't getting any traffic, try to either...

      a) Raise your bid

      or

      b) Broaden your targeting.

Nice tip, have you split tested this vs different colour borders?

The 2 are usually neck in neck with each other. However, I am starting to notice that the drop shadow works better when targeting females... but I'm still testing this.

Hi Jacob, thanks a bunch for sharing this tip. Question for you: by roughly what % has drop shadow increased CTR vs no drop shadow or other CTR-enhancing mechanism?

I'm trying to understand what the likely sustained CTR lift would be for this where the starting point is no image optimization whatsover, just like the normal red cross logo image in your video.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Usually the CTR bump is different for each image. For example, if your original image is very eye catching to begin with, the drop shadow won't have that much of an effect.

However, if I were to throw an average increase in CTR out there, it would be about 0.06 - 0.07%. Again, these numbers aren't set in stone because of all the factors that come in play.

When it comes to comparing this with other CTR increasing tactics, they all yield similar results.

That's a whole business on image optimization for higher CTR. Crazy CTR - Boost your ads CTR (for Facebook and POF) started to automatize this concept of applying eye catching effects to get a better CTR.
The service is over a year old and is very recognized in the industry. Practically you upload your banners and you'll get hundreds of variation of those with different borders, shape, effects, etc.

Since I worked with many affiliates and tested quite some stuff, the increase can be very high or sometimes can even decrease in CTR(but that's not something to worry about, it happens rarely), in the end it's all about testing. I've seen 3.5x increase in CTR on an affiliate that's pushing over 5k/day...you know what that means...

Whoa, cool website, and super cheap too! I'm going to definitely try that out.

I also have a software that does the variations for CTR etc. but I lost it when I bought my new laptop .

Surely the entire 5k wasn't on that single campaign? If it was, then 3.5x for 5k/day is pretty crazy... to say the least.

Thanks. Not on that single campaign, but the majority of it. He put lots of $ on testing, I think he tested over 300 variations of a single image.

i've spent $13 and received 54 clicks to my squeeze page. I used the CPM, if I went CPC it would have cost more. Im a bit confused on this recommendation, cos others also suggest CPC. I've tried that and found I spent 100's.

The trick with CPC is that the cost of CPC goes way down once your ad begins to 'perform' well on Facebook's network.

It's also a matter of testing as well. I am in no way saying CPC is better than CPM in all cases. But in most cases, I find CPC does better.

That's about 25 cents per click, pretty good if you're advertising in the US. What kind of CTR are your ads getting, if you don't mind sharing?

I've been using this same tactic for offline clients with another tool called fbadstoolbox.com and this can be used for testing variety of images for POF also.
