No-Follow Blog Comments - Are They Worth Posting?

I have seen some discussion about follow and no-follow blog comments - do no-follow blog posts offer any benefit if a link to your site is inserted?

I know the benefits for SEO are probably nil but is it worth posting no-follow blog comments?

I would say yes as it looks more natural to have a mixture of nofollow and dofollow links

I have found that having nofollow links also boosts your rankings and as said by "sfx1971":

There's a very good article on Chris Rempel's blog about the effects of the Penguin algorithm change - take a look at that.

Different people are going to have different answers to this one, clearly.

For me, they're so much worthwhile posting that (in spite of being able to see with one click, from the Firefox add-on) I don't even bother to check whether or not the links on the page are "no-follow".

I don't do blog commenting primarily for SEO, but even so, I don't believe that they have no SEO benefit, anyway.

Most search engines seem to ignore "no-follow".

Many people believe that even Google doesn't discount "no-follow" nearly as much as it sometimes claims: it's ambiguous at best.

People who have already decided that "no-follow" backlinks are not so good for SEO may not be interested, but others like yourself who are a little more open-minded will find many threads here explaining/discussing interesting things about no-follow links: this one might start you off, and then there's more here, here, here, here, here, and so on.

I think we should not bother about do-follow and no-follow sites, just have to keep in mind that the links must be build on relevant niche. Building links on relevant niche should be our main concern while link building.

They have no direct SEO benefit, but they are crucial to make you link building campaign looked natural in Google's eyes.

If is doesn't appear natural, Google can penalize you site.

      Exactly what he said...

Also, apart from the SEO benefits, blog comments (regardless of 'follow' status') are a great way to establish a little credibility and some traffic too.

I still get a trickle of traffic from Yaro Starak's blog from a comment posted months ago.

Dofollow is what helps you rank

Having some, lets say 10-20% nofollow links in your backlink profile would make things look much more natural.

No it's not worth it. No-follow links do not even register as valid links so it doesn't help your SEO to have a mixture of both.

A Google search bot only sees it as content text and not a backlink. Concentrate on do-follow sites in your relevant niche.

Sorry, but you are wrong and I'll provide why. No follow links do in fact get registered by Google, but they do NOT give you any link "juice." No follow is just telling Google that they do not want to be associated with the site that's linking on theirs. As well as what other people said, it is also good to have a mixture of both to look natural.

Also, you can get a ton of traffic from blog commenting from people clicking through to your site as long as you associate a link with your name.

      Check out these as well.

If it's quality blog - then yes, by all means it's worth it. For the seo point of view - you make you backlink profile look more natural, from traffic point of view - if you comment is valuable and informative, you generate highly targeted traffic and that's priceless! Plus you build relationship with the top bloggers in your niche - invaluable.

Some very useful comments there - seems that a mixture of no-follow and follow links would make you link profile look more "natural" in the eyes of Google. Concentrating on just a couple of areas of link building can be dangerous - as a lot of us will have seen over the last couple of years.

I found a blog related to one of my niches, that gets about 35,000 visitors per month.

I picked an article I liked on the site, I don't even think it was on the first page, but I can't remember for sure now.

I left a comment about THAT article.

The ONLY place I had my link was in the 'field' for it, not in the comment itself.

Within 48 hours, I'd received over 50 visitors from that one little comment.

And Google not only had nothing to do with it, but they can also never do a damn thing to stop me from getting that traffic.

      • They can help you with link diversity. Additionally, you will gain exposure for your business and establish credibility. If your comments provide value to other users, you will get traffic as well.

Regardless to whether it is do follow or no follow, if it can bring traffic, and the site has a lot of visitor and relevant to our topic, I think you should build the link there.

Anymore G is going after sites with unnatural backlinks. Would it look natural if 100% of your links are DoFollow? Mix them up some. Throw in some EDU's, comments, social, and you'll get your rankings.

You have heard the wrong thing. Do-follow links helps to get better ranking, Not no-follow. No-follow links are needed to look your backlinks natural.

I would suggest that a fine balance should be made between the both. Even if the no follow blogs don't give you any seo benefit still they can give you a good amount of traffic which will ultimately benefit you in your effort of making your site popular, which is the main purpose of doing seo.
