Your Domain Name Should Make Sense (And Not Just To Yourself)

Posted 09-11-2008 at 01:20 AM by Monetize

In the wonderful world of internet marketing
and ecommerce, it seems that there's always
some eye-popping phenomenon to be observed.
One thing that I find amazing are some of the
crazy, whacky and downright unprofessional
domain names that people select to promote
their products and services.

When the topic arises, the excuse seems to be
that the name was either purchased or it's all
that could be "thought up." Do people seriously
think that others would remit payment on a
site that sounds like a third grader runs it? I
won't go into specifics but I'm sure others
have witnessed this as well. Especially on the
forums where people use domain names that
only they could remember. What are they
thinking?

Could you imagine telling someone your domain
name is www.ihavebutterfliesonmyeyeballs.com
or www.icandoitallwhilestandingonmyhead.com
or some such idiotic nonsense. And expecting
anyone to take you seriously.

Get real.

If you're one of the guilty culprits who believes
that this practice makes good business sense,
please do the universe a humongous favor and
register a domain name that makes sense. To
everyone.
