training course for writers/copywriters

Hello, I am seeking advice on where to find a distance learning or online course for copywriting skills and techniques. I live in the UK and would like to develop my writing skills to work in the future in this field as a freelance.

Any ideas of where I can find a good course which teaches the techniques and processes involved?

Thanks

Edd

There are a few courses available all for you to choose
from. This has been discussed a few times on the
board so you may want to check some other threads.

Startin' to work at some text trader sites may be a good variant. Why all those training courses?
    Get down to business instead!

P.S. Try some book by Bob Bly - he's great at copywriting.

    • Hi Edd,

Over all the years I've spent $195,000 plus on the guru's, courses and seminars.

      And easily $15,000 on books.

If I was starting from scratch - I would have a word with Mike.

He's done the best courses that I've done (he's mentioned them on various posts).

      He knows his stuff.

You'll learn all the right techniques - and it will help save you a fortune.

I am not sure what he/she meant by test trader either. Perhaps he is referring to content exchanges. There are a number of sites where you can sign up and trade content with others. I don't think you can "just get down to business". If you don't build a solid rep you won't get anywhere.

The best way to learn copywriting is to get the basic structure and start writing. Practice, practice, and more practice. The others are right, there's a ton of courses out there. I have one myself that gives you the basic structure and ideas in an hour video. It's pretty informative for the beginner, but the most help I've found beyond the basics is by studying others work and reading the forums here. There's some great advice on copywriting on this forum.

Griffin, is the material on writing itself for direct response style/sales letter copywriting (eg. Carlton, Halbert, Clickbank style) OR more the marketing-speak you find on corporate/brochure sites ie. We are this and that. We do this and that. We are the best because... whitepaper/article type content etc.

Also, if you don't mind sharing, what kind of results have you gotten from the marketing component from the course - clients, $ etc?

Dumb Question: What's the difference between a copywriter and a writer? Do copywriters just write sales letters?
