Does your traffic ever drop in the summer?

Hey everybody. Haven't posted anything in a little while and was just wondering if anybody else has a drop in traffic during the summer? I understand that people are probably out doing things and today was Saturday as well but was just curious if this happens to anybody else? Was thinking that the summer would be some of my best months because my blog is mostly about metal detectors but it could just all be due to the site still being relatively new as well. I usually get a pretty good boost in traffic when I add a new article too but should have another one in a couple of days I guess. Could I also get some feedback about anything to improve it? Thanks alot and best of luck you all

In my situation is quite predictable... and expected.

Some of my sites focus on the education niche in the US. Not surprisingly, there's a summer dip when students are on vacation.

I've heard from other webmasters covering other niches they also suffer a similar dip.

I'm not sure what the explanation is for their situation.

  • Not really, I think I actually get more in the summer... Although I write more in the summer.

Yeah I'd say in the summer mine usually dips. Summer vacations and such. Expected dip today with it being Saturday plus summertime.

always it depends on the niche where you are, from my point of view, it is likely, given that the summer people have in mind another and spend their money for another.

From my experience Q2 and Q3 are generally weaker and therefore it's sounds reasonable that you would see that .
    Enjoy your summer (:

In some markets, it does indeed. Overall, though, not very much nowadays.

I remember a time when - back 3 million years ago, it seems - you could only surf the net on a home desktop or laptop. "Summer slow-down" was quite the bummer, to say the least. And it tended to be when most of us would be goofing off and attending conventions in different U.S states, countries like Costa Rica.

But now - mobile surfing. And can I get an "Amen?" You do notice a dip, but literally a fraction compared to those primordial days.

    Cheers,

    Tom

But with smartphone I believe while they are suntanning outside etc

they will browse , surf using smart phones

Amen... I remember those days, however I still find it slower in the summer. People want to get out and do things when the weather is nice or go on vacation.

I agree with Tom. Since we can access the internet from virtually anywhere in the world (thanks to the mobile device and wireless internet) "summer slowdown" in traffic is pretty much non existent.

Of course the one thing that does play a big factor is what market/niche you're in.

In terms of free marketing, i see certain drops during certain parts of the year.

In terms of paid advertising... no drop. I can turn the volume up or down with this at the drop of a dime. Paid advertising is just the fastest and easiest way to get things going - especially if you don't already have a large customer base.

Yes traffic during the summer usually dips for certain niches like MMO (make money online)
Not too certain about the metal detector niche though, i do not think that niche is seasonal.
You may have just have to ramp up your advertising campaigns to get more traffic.

Nope, mine drops out the bottom from November to mid-January.

I write about fraud awareness, recognition, prevention, and what to do if you've been scammed.

The big duh is that the holidays are what scammers look forward to every year and by the end of October they are drooling. But here's the cyber-psychology and the human nature of the beast:

      1. The usual "it can't or won't happen to me"
      2. The usual "I'm too smart to be scammed"
      3. And, It's the holidays so I don't want to hear about it.

By mid-January you can hear the shoulda' coulda' wails all the way to the North Pole, which is when traffic picks up again until the next holiday season.

I've had 3 on line business and each one of them had a different seasonal profile. Just depends on what you're selling to whom.

This has been my experience as well. November to mid-January are the worst - sales cut in half.

Then it jumps back up, and for me, February thru April are GREAT. Then it dips some before summer - I'm guessing because American kids are getting out of school and parents are getting prepped for that, plus vacations.

Pretty much what I experience as well. Feb-May are consistently my strongest months of the year. December is always the worst.

I didn't check the whole traffic of my website, but what I have noticed when the summer began is that the statistics of my email marketing campaign has decreased when the summer strated. The bounce rate was like usual, but the open rate was significantly lower. I'm still trying to sort out what is the problem. Do you think summer might have something about it?

I will lay it down simple for you.

    1) Summer - people outdoors, not inside on net.

    2) Winter - people cold, are inside on the net browsing, not outside in the cold.

So its no wonder why in the winter US time, sales go up.

I definitely think in some Niches the so called "Summer Doldrums" can be applied.

But in most of my Niches cannot see a huge difference !

Hard to tell. Some of my sites CRUSH it in the summer while others lose a lot of traffic.

Being that I have no experience in the metal detector niche, I would guess these are the months people have vacation time and the climate is warm enough to get out and use their devices.

If the drop is substantial though you may want to look into your Google Analytics to see if you've lost any specific rankings or valuable traffic sources.

My traffic seems to go down the most during official holidays...

During the summer? Well, there is the occasional lull I would guess due to the weather being nice so people are enjoying it outside, away from their computers. But I guess the weather can't be good everywhere hmmm...
