INTERNET MARKETING

I recently commissioned a logo design on fiverr for my hypnosis company and instructed the seller to base the design on this logo:

My company name is 'HypnosisHub' and with this logo, I mainly wanted to emphasize the whole idea of a hub as being the centre of activity within a certain field.

This is what she came up with:

As you can see the general outline of the design is very similar to the original, with variances in the colour scheme, font, and spiral design. Are these differences enough to avoid copyright issues?

Nah. I think he needs to tweak it some more. You might have gotten away with it if both the places didn't have "hub" in the name, but since they do, and the design is original, I think you need you start over again. Sorry.

There are not enough differences to avoid a possible future cease and desist letter/email.

It seems to have been copied (ripped) verbatim... most elements lay in the exact same place.

If you overlay them on top of each other it will be simple to see the similarities.

It is considered ok to be inspired by a design but it's a different ball game to outright copy it.

  It's not copyright - it's trademark.
  
  This was your mistake - you should not give a freelancer something that can't be copied and say "I want something like this". Not fair to the freelancer or to the company who DESIGNED that logo for their own brand.
  
  You need to start over by giving the freelancer your business name - your color ideas - and your general company "image". TELL the freelancer " I want to emphasize the whole idea of a hub as being the centre of activity within a my field".
  
  Then let the freelancer come up with ideas for logos. There are enough "copies" on Fiverr without asking for something to be copied.

I would choose photo n. 1 but with photo n2 spiral !

For some reason...

I really wanted to see an eyeball with that hypnotic swirl in the middle...

With a few pocket watches swinging out from the eye to produce the hub..

Many Fiverr logo creators take your suggestions way to literally.

You need to provide inspiration, but also clarity in your instructions. If you had asked them to use that as inspiration and then gave them some additional ideas to incorporate, you probably would have received something more original.

The seller might have thought that you owned the logo design that you gave him and just want to redesign it a bit.

Maybe next time you might want to elaborate it further and ask them to repeat your instruction in their own words so you will know if they understood your instructions correctly.

The main factor is just the symbols around the circle. It is exactly the same as on your logo. If you change that it will be good.

  get rid of the graphic and place the spiral image in the P, O, and B of "HypnosisHub" and call it a day is what I say. In terms of a logo for a website you are better off with the single line logo anyways.

  Oops - someone missed the memo.
  
  One option:
  
  Keep the blue circle and the spiral graphic inside - remove all the outer "thingies" - CHANGE the font on the "hypnosis hub" as it is clearly a knockoff.
  
  That would give you a memorable logo without wasting more time/money on it.
  
  The term "hypnosis hub" doesn't do anything for me as I think of hypnosis as going inward rather than radiating out - but that's just me.
