Selling Physical Info Products On eBay?

Hi Guys,

Now that we cannot sell any digital products on eBay, have any of you started selling Physical Info products? Any success stories?

I was selling digital products before but I totally abandoned ebay after the Digital product ban.

I was just browsing my junk mail (IM mail) to see all the promotions and I see there is a new software coming out which automates the delivery of Physical CD/DVD's on eBay, the software is called Auction acrobat at auctionacrobat.com.

I really want to get back on to eBay. Automating physical product delivery looks like an interesting option.

Also, what kind of products are you currently selling? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

James

    Hi James,

I made the switch straight away and don't really have any problems. It's a bit of a pain mailing out x amount of cd's each day, but hey, it's helping to build my list and my reputation. I must admit, I don't currently use any software to automate the delivery process as I'm a bit of a skin flint and haven't really heard many success stories on this topic. We'll have to wait and see what the feedback is like.

Be very WARY of the jealous PowerSellers.

I listed a 'physical' product. (Information CD) Downloadable website templates, E-books etc,
only to find I'd been reported to eBay for breaking their laws on digital downloads.

I got into conversation with their support, and I objected saying that I 'was not' breaking their rules.
I went on to list several Powersellers all selling IDENTICAL products in the same way. (Obviously we'd all bought the same Master Resale Rights)

However, eBay's response was that if I wanted to have eBay investigate these Powersellers I would have to report them through the official channels and that they TOO would get de-listed.

Obviously I wasn't going to do that. (Good luck to them I say)
But it wasn't very nice to know that some jerk did THAT to me for no good reason.

eBay still has me listed as 'failing' in 'Policy Complience'.

I just thought I'd pass this info on so that you are aware how it can innocently affect your account.

        pete.

            Hi,

Just easing back into eBay here after a mess that took us down for a couple months with the electronic downloads. All cleared up now after help from many people including a super lady at Paypal who took time out to sort out the mess, plus a VP at eBay and our attorney using correspondence.

Feels great to be back, but we're working things very different - and making more money. My suggestions are:

            1) Packaging products: CDs / DVDs with print workbooks and selling as sets. Make sure to charge enough shipping like the $9.80 for flat rate boxes, or begin your bids with enough to cover this (you get 50-cents off at check at via Paypal if you check out that way). These boxes h old up to 70 pounds (a LOT) so plenty of room to add goodies - -glossy postcards of your other products, business cards, freebies, etc. Stuff those boxes! And add the people to a print postcard. We get great ROI from postcard mailings. (Follow them up with phone calls using short, targted scripts and get even better ROI).

            2) Selling larger items too: cars, equipment, furniture...These items take longer to find, get ready to sell and to deliver, but you earn more and this covers your time, effort and energy. Again, watch the fees here and start your bidding with enough to cover the min. you have in the item. Tire-kick on Craigslist or other classified sites that don’t carry such high fees, if you need to. Just beware you don’t quite get the same traffic you do with eBay.

            3) Use their eBay Classified ads for digital-delivered products and services and don't take needless risks. Plus do watch what you put in these Classifieds. Even though some seem to get away with using links in them, order buttons, complete contact info, etc. READ eBay's rules and follow them to a T. This is a must. You will still get traffic, calls, sales, etc.

            4) Network with other eBayers, your buyers! One lady there is teaching me how to improve my shipping listings, for example, noting details about package sizes that I guess can get you into trouble (might have a thread on that later - but sure hope not.)

            5) I know eBay stores cost a little more, but you get so much more coverage and opportunities even with the smallest ones, that I can’t see why so many people don’t have them. For $15, you can’t beat it. Use their Market Research tools at least once a month for like $3, too, as your budget allows and see what the market bears.

            So hey, branch out

            6) If you do run into trouble, as you can tell we did at the beginning of this post, take a deep breath first, and realize your issues will more than likely not be resolved anytime fast. Then start a file and keep copies of all communications – even chats, logs of phone calls with times, names, titles, phone numbers and extensions, etc. This will save cut/pasting throughout the process of getting reinstated. Communicate in a professional manner, even though you’ll probably feel walked on, fess up to any wrong doings and point out your excellent history and that you will not repeat mistakes, etc. Enlist the help of your attorney, if possible. Ours had no eBay expertise, but took our letter that summed up the trouble (about 3-4 pages in length), and simply added his own cover letter. That was enough to help. Ditto with the Paypal lady. You know the inside facts, so write them out – in a professional manner – and help others help you.

Good luck to all eBayers and "Cheers!" (Rootbeer held high!)

Yeah, I've done that too and it works OK. I manage to send them a CD, but deliver a digital download with only a part of the product for them to see immediately. It has worked so far without problems, but I believe it can be tricky if ebay finds out...

So, is there no way to sell a digital product on EBAY anymore? I thought you could do so if you were listed in classifieds, not as an auction? ....Are there no digital products on EBAY period?

Supposedly (AFAIK) you can sell digital products on classified ads but cannot send them out of eBay (url to your site). You can only give a phone number or email address.

Kind of defeats the purpose of a classified Ad online doesn't it?

That's why physical cd's seem to be the way to go.

I simply refer potential buyers to my about me page for more information on getting my physical stuff in digital format. This has kept me in the safe zone. In the auction I list the actual product in print and deliverable CD/DVD.

Interesting, how do you do it? Do you have a big link that directs to the AM page?

Also, eBay physical automation looks like a great idea because supposedly with the auctionacrobat software you can have unlimited products.

Maybe you can do the same like with digital products (having 200+ items listed) at $1.95 + shipping and build a quality list and feedback quickly and completely automate the process? Sounds like a great business model to get leads and promote relevant products.

I would have if eBay had told me WHO did the dirty deed. (Can't brand everyone as the same)
But as usual, eBay keep very much at arms length when discussing ANYTHING (unless you owe them money probably) So it'll remain an eBay lesson to be remembered.

What's the coffee? Maybe I need some.

    James,

Right after the (uggh, dare I say it?) "eBay slap" there were a ton of threads popping up in the old WF about what to do / what can be done /what will work etc.

That being said, check out he old wf at The Warrior Forum to see what people were saying.

Shipping physical products has become very easy using Kunaki.com and some automation software. To date I don't think any have worked with eBay. I see that the makers of "Auction Acrobat' put out a Kunaki automaton called "Disc Mojo" so it's probably going to be a modified version of that to work with Kunaki

    Mr Wright

I know Paul, the creator of Auction Acrobat. I'm expecting it to be a quality application. I haven't reviewed it at this stage.

However, there is an application already on the market that will automate the process for you. It's at Instant Automated eBook Delivery On Ebay - Ebook Protection Software Automates the whole process of the order, communicating with a fulfillment company (Kunaki.com), captures customer info into an autoresponder, optional OTO, etc, etc.

I don't have a list of features for Paul's product yet, but Digital Dispatch will do the job. I sell a CD product using Kunaki.com. The problem, I believe, that sellers are having with the move to physical products is:

    1. how to create a CD with their digital products
    2. how to automate the process.

Either Paul's upcoming product Auction Acrobat or Socrates My Digital Dispatch will take care of #2! Any seller interested in learning how to create their own CD and how to get up and running with Kunaki to fulfill their CDs or DVDs can get a "seller discount" on a set of video tutorials at Physical Products Made Easy | How To Sell Information Products By Mail for just $10. Usually sells for $27 at PhysicalProductsMadeEasy.com

    Hope this helps

      Thanks Dave,

At $97, that script sounds a little pricey. I think it's because EBay and kunaki automation might have been a very hard thing to do.

Any idea on how much auction acrobat is going to cost?

you really need to read my eBook. It's all about overcoming the extra costs to do with CDs and physical postage, and how the market has changed to the sellers' benefit.

It's going to be online next week and will cost $7 or £5.

You can also sign up to my newsletter to get free tips on the subject.

PM with any further comments, or questions.

I could probably be able to give you a free chapter from my book, just shoot me a PM

I haven't sold info products on ebay yet, though it is on my list.

The best way to automate sending info products via eBay is Kunaki -- CD/DVD manufacturing and publishing service. $1.75 per disc, including all fees. Great way to go.

    Hi James

I have clients using Ebay for Self Fulfilled Lead Generation selling Hard Copy Products. I think it is actually much better for the systems than Digital. Baically we sell a product at a very low price, plus postage at cost then add in our other stuff into the package.

I automate with Infusionsoft and Automated APIs into Postage Systems and Kunaki. Not cheap but for the volumes the cost is really nothing. In fact that is exactly the maths, nothing on the cost of lead.

I think Ebay had little choice but to go non digital. Basically they are still a online Garage sale, that is still the majority of their business. And they will protect this very stongly. Just the way it is.

    Hope this helps

Digital goods can be sold on eby as long as you follow their strict guidelines which mean listing it in the classifieds section. I still sell informational products through ebay but I sell them as a physical product which is not against their policy (not yet anyways). I list them and burn them on CD/DVD and ship them out. I make sure I follow their guidelines.
