Introducing myself...

My name is Joe. I have been marketing online for over 10 years. I got started with the "make money to surf" programs. It was such easy money. I starting making around 10k per month. That was such good money to me then and it really got me excited about internet marketing. Over the years I built many businesses online but I have always kept quite. I built many sites over the years. I found that creating honest sites that pulled repeat customers was by far the best business plan. Something I wish more people would do. In 2008 I sold some larger online properties and took a break. I eventually got bored and now I am back.

When I first started I spent too much time on discussion boards getting wrapped up in strange discussions. This was taking away from the businesses I had going so I would just browse the boards but I would not spend time posting. This time around I will be spending some time on the boards. Maybe I can show a few of you youngsters a few old school strategies

I poked around to see what I wanted to do and I found many "how to make money" guides posted everywhere. I checked a few out that promise automated money and secret 2.0 strategies to see what they were all about. I have to admit some of the tools and strategies are kind of cool but some of these guides are garbage and many are misleading. Like I said, I am old school. I like to do many things by hand. I did pick up a few sweet programs to help me out a bit but mostly I will be sticking to my ways.

For those of you who have bought some of the IM guides out there just remember one thing... Marketing is all about finding people who WANT something and you give them what they want. It is that simple.

Anyways I just wanted to introduce myself. I need I think 20 posts before I can contribute to this community by replying to other threads so I figured this should be at least one of my posts.

Joe

Similar things that you say in your post did not quite add up such as "I've been marketing online for over 10 years""I started making $10,000 a month" but then you say when I first got started I pulled my head around and looked at 2.0 strategies.

The thing is 2.0 strategies are not even close to 10 years old is a fairly new phrase in that fact.

I'm sure you probably just got confused or perhaps I'm totally misunderstanding you. Can you please explain...

I think he is saying that he has read posts about 2.0 recently....since his return....not 10 years ago.

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing about some of your "old school" techniques. I think there was probably alot more honesty then.

Sorry I was not clear. That is after my 2 years off.

Before my time off 2.0 was just a couple years old and really starting to make an impact but I never got involved.

Actually it was probably less honest in ways and more honest in others. For example, those "get paid to surf" companies promised to pay all kind of money but they did not have any money behind them like most online companies. Luckily I saw this in time. After receiving checks for maybe 6 months they stopped and all of the companies went bankrupt.

The billing some companies were doing was insane and very shady. They would charge a small amount for something and you would end up with tons of crazy charges. I even remember people being tricked to download software and they would be disconnected from their Internet and reconnected through some payphone line. People were getting $1000 phone bills. The hidden charges still goes on with **** berry and other products but it is not as hidden or as widespread as then (speaking in terms of the percentage of internet users). Maybe I am just not as aware of it now. I don't know but the FTC seems to be doing a good job trying to clean up the net.

I'm right there with you buddy I also for a short time got sucked into the paid to surf junk although I never received any payments from any of the services I experimented with they were a great way to understand others' business creativity.

Yep. It was a good start. I remember getting involved selling guides to help people make money online. Back then that was such easy money. No one knew how to make money online. I think Jim from JimWorld had his own paid guides or it might have been someone else he promoted. My memory is a little fuzzy. Jim made a killing with those and so did I. It was not like today where everyone has to convince you they have some secret method and when everyone reads they roll their eyes and say "I already know that" then refund. Then it was all fresh to everyone. When you read a guide it was simple but you would never think of refunding something with so much new information. It was a gold mind.

The money got better but much harder to make as more competition got online. I just had to work harder but I was almost always a step ahead and when I was a step behind I just made something better and got it in front of eyeballs first so people would come to me... biz 101

So Why Did You Get Out Of the Game?
Although the competition for selling make money reports is tough everything has shifted to helping and providing value to Fortune 500 companies, Law firms and until recently the medical industry.

He said he got bored with it all in his first post (I think)

I did the same thing myself, had a very successful online biz then sold most of it early last year because I'd got fed up with it.

I also came back though only part time

The game of selling IM guides or taking 2 years off?

I stopped selling IM guides and moved into other area where I used my knowledge to make a lot more money. Even though it was harder work it was worth the money.

I took 2 years off after selling my main properties because I just wanted a break. I took time to travel, spend time with my family, and play in the stock market a little which is something I enjoy.

Why was my other thread deleted? I posted a screen shot to show I was not lying. I think it was a moderator who cleared up the confusion but then it disappeared. I wish you left that post up. It was a relevant conversation and I just got to clear things up with the people who were having doubts about me then it is gone.

    Was a rule broken somewhere?

A little like Google the moderators don't necessarily tell you all of the rules. Be extremely overcautious with every post.

I have seen that when browsing here so I tried to be careful. I was just defending myself when a few started to attack me because I was talking about how deceiving so many of the IM guides are. I guess "newbies" need to be more careful. After taking 2 years off I am now a newbie again!

tpw, This was cleared up in the other thread that was deleted. I was trying to reply in other sections of the board and that can't be done until I have a certain amount of posts. I just never tried replying in the general section. I assumed I could not reply anywhere. That is were the confusion was. Is that ok with you? You seem to be jumping all over me. relax.

Thanks for the great example of unwritten rules.

As you will be able to notice people jump all over each other on this forum. One of the unwritten rules do not call people out on it.

Greeting 10k a month is a nice residual income there. It probably a 10 rough years for you As we can see that the more experience you have, the better you are at making money online. Not bad for all those years. You surely earned it my friend.

Yeah, I do have some things to learn. I learned a bunch of stuff when reviewing IM products for my site. Some of that stuff was new to me so it was probably more interesting to me than most which kept me from ripping too hard on some of the products.

Although, I did notice that some of those products really get away from showing people marketing or the best ways to get traffic. They get too fancy. Which I guess would be normal because they are trying to sell something fancy and new but sometimes fancy and new does not work. I would rather see a solid boring IM strategy than a new fancy one that does not work. Some of the products are just about fancy ways to get traffic. Which sounds good but it is not always profitable. In the end it is all about profits flowing to you.

Example would be the mobile phone guides. Some of those concentrate on paid traffic. These mobile guides are marketed to newbies promising them riches and easy money. I don't think any newbie is capable of making successful, profitable campaigns with paid traffic especially from general mobile traffic. It takes experience and testing to be able to convert that traffic with a good profit margin. Newbies will just flush money down the toilet.

Anyways, I am excited to learn some new things and after a break I am ready to come back an have some fun building up a few businesses but I am starting light first

Howdy Joe, nice to meet ya. Regarding posts, rules and such, just be yourself. They can't take that away from you. I had a post removed yesterday and the life of me, I don't know why. Maybe because I inserted an image of a chart that showed what people are actually buying these days. But I got over it, lol. Well take care, man and all the best.
