The script helps people make a decision because they have to take some kind of action. When someone is leaving your site, a popup will appear, and it present a choice – either enter information to receive something, or be directed somewhere else they want to go.

An exit splash is definitely what you need if you want to take better chances in getting opt-ins. One exit splash is alright for me but when they do it thrice Im getting anoyed too.
