The VERY reason why people fail...

There are already threads similar to this but this time I am going to explain and cite only one... And this is based on my personal experience...

The VERY reason why people fail is "desperation"

You might not know me personally but I've been in IM/HYP/Cycler/Autosurf/PTC/Cyclers/Doublers/MLM arena since 2001. That's hell a list but without any significant success until this beginning of 2011.

I'll explain.

The first time I discovered moneymaking online was not in a legit way and it was all about HYIP (High Yield Investment Program). I and my family was in great financial trouble and I wanted to make money as fast as I can so I invested some $ into these HYIP programs. Since 2003 when Talkgold forum was created, I've been active member-turned-moderator until 2006 joining lots of programs like I mentioned above without definite direction. The reason: I was desperate to make money online... I had small success but overall, the total assessment was failed. Not because I lost money (I didn't), but because I lost significant amount of time.

Moving forward:
I've been here earlier than my joining date taking some significant information and last 2 years before I joined WF, I created an ebook and sold it to DP. That time, DP was a little different compared to it's current condition. I still had a job that time and financial pressure was not a major problem. I sold hundreds of copies for $7 and finally, I considered that as the most successful part of my online journey. One thing I noticed to myself while doing that - unlike before, I do not count the money. I just enjoyed doing it. But the situation on that forum makes me feel different so I finally evacuated here. LOL

Now, I can't say I am making enough right now but I could tell you I can consider myself as a successful IMer, at least on my own way. My purpose of selling that ebook primarily was not to make quick cash but to test the waters of IM market as I never tried doing such thing before. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe not but I'm speaking based on my own experience - and I never felt desperate even before I started selling that ebook.

What I exactly I am trying to say?

If you go on rush because you are desperate to make money, then you are in the league of losers.

Every time a friend ask me "how to make money online", I just shrug, but every time a friend ask me "how can he learn what I am doing", I mentor him for free.

These are too different things. If you put money ahead of everything, you'll get lose. But if you put learning ahead of money, money will just follow. Passion on what I am doing is the key factor why I got this little success...

I invested significant amount of time learning without spending and without thinking if I earn someday and at last, all effort got paid.

To people who are just starting and/or who are not yet making any considerable amount of money, my advise is: put your heart into it. Do not force your self to do this and do that just because you see someone is earning from doing this and doing that. Feel your passion. Ask yourself which part do you think are you going to do good and focus into it.

Set aside the money. Don't get desperate because it will only lead you to nothing.... Sorry for this lengthy message but I hope it could leave you a little thinking..............

BTW, I lost my job last February 2 as a Manufacturing Supervisor but I never worried at all..and have no more plan to apply for another job...

I completely agree that it is important to keep learning. If you ever meet someone that says they "know everything about internet marketing" run! Even if they study every day there is always more to learn or brush up on. Same thing applies for the real world too, right?

You make some excellent points, Adie. People who come to IM in desperation will exit pretty quickly once they discover it is a business that takes work, rather than a way to get rich quick. I agree--nothing leads to failure faster than desperation. It takes staying power to succeed. Success does not come overnight--these is usually challenges that need to be overcome. Once you get some success, however, you can build on it--'rinse and repeat" as they say.

Very True, and it is not just only for money, this fact should be keep in mind while trying to achieve whatever target in the field of internet marketing from traffic to your rankings, if you become desperate for money, you will surely loose everything.

thats a very interesting take on it... alot of people shift to the IM world because of desperation, they see marketers making 6 and 7 figures and they think it happens overnight...that just doesnt happen
desperation is kind of like a "gateway drug" it leads into lack of focus and information overload because people are looking for the quick fix....
    I like that take

SO true, I was thinking about that the other day. You get newbies posting things on IM forums all the time like, "pls i need 2 earn $100 a day" and I never get the slightest urge to help them because their attitude has already doomed them to failure. Desperation doesn't promote taking the right kinds of action - as you rightly say, it is focused entirely on unrealistic wishful thinking and that's what gets that kind of person hopping around from one 'scheme' to the next chasing the 'dream'. The other thing with desperation, why it's a huge hindrance to success - and this is true for other areas of life too - it's a massive turn-off to others. Right girls?

Although it is normal for a person to become desperate for we have different personal problems, but when you let yourself drowned into this, you can't think of any better idea and you'll certainly lose your focus. It's like swimming from one side of the river to another side. You can see the other side and you want to swim fast only to lose strength because you are doing it by force and not by good technique and without swimming plan...

Desperation usually gets in the way of clear thinking and focus, and this makes it difficult to attain results with IM. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but when people are in a distracted and worried state of mind, not many are really able to focus effectively on IM and get things done.

great post - i think people get overwhelmed by all the information and quick making money squeeze pages out there and want to try them all at once.

they get desperate and put their money towards all of these techniques when all the techniques they buy really say the same thing: "do these things consistently to increase traffic, sales, leads, cash, etc".

the actual hard work needed to put in to "make money" really doesn't necessarily cost much and just takes time that desperate people are too overwhelmed to make.

The IM industry certainly has room for everyone who wants to make money online. Think about your passion and start from there. Don't be afraid to put in the hard work and yet still make mistakes. It will pay off in the end if you keep at it.

The VERY reason why people fail...

... is because they are not desperate enough.

Many people find their stroke or way once they become desperate
enough to actually take serious action. Desperation is a great motivator.
I often find my solutions to problems once I become desperate enough.
This coming from a guy who's been self-employed since before he was 18
    years old... me.

Being desperate often means displaying great courage even being under
fire... or in the hot seat so to speak, where something has to happen
NOW! When the desperation hits an apex, the urgency factor kicks in
and the sub-conscience self starts to work over time trying to find a
way or solution towards attaining something... like creating an eBook,
throwing up a salespage and all the rest that goes with it, then work
like heck... because they're desperate, to get the results they want!

Often a lack of desperation is a result of not enough motivation. In
order for some to get inspired enough, they need a desperation fire lit
under them to get them moving towards success. You can lead a
horse to water, but you can't make him drink.... until he's thirsty
    enough... or desperate enough.

      Hi LastWarrior,
Desperation works great for a person who has the knowledge of the process and has the required tools. But it does opposite to the person is totally unarmed.

There are so many pieces a person needs to stich together to run a successful internet business and it becomes virtually impossible for a desperate person to focus and implement anything properly(even if he gets some working action plan).

I am aware that different people respond to such situations differently but it is a fact that most of the people feel themselves unable to come out of these situations on their own and keep falling for more "Get Rich Quick"crap....I have myself gone through that phase so I know how it feels and works.

If you can avoid it then don't let desperation be a place that you ever goto. If you find yourself there then use it as a spring board to start taking the nessesary action to get yourself out.

In this business the only person who is going to help you is you. Sure you can get coaching and mentoring and opportunites will open up following that but like the film said - IF YOU WANT IT - GO GET IT!

I am not sure "desperation" is a reason...but rather a character/situational issue. We are all not desperate at the same time in the same situation.

If I had to break the reason(s) down they would be:

    1. Education - folks just don't know what they are doing in so many ways. How to create a business plan, outsource or hire, accounting/metrics...the list goes on and on.
    2. Resources - they don't have the time and/or money to do what needs to be done.
    3. Commitment - this includes being lazy, not passionate or focused.

Just my two cents but you could be successful in just about anything if you have those 3 things.
