email hosting vs autoresponders

Hello to fellow warriors,

I just want to ask what is the difference of have your own email hosting site from having auto responder account from getresponse or aweber?

If your main purpose only is to build a list is it better to get auto responder services? Or having your own email hosting is good option.

autoresponders are like you mention are pros and offer a variety of value added services. Hosting your own can save money, but most of the internet marketing pros use autoreponders

    Main reason is email deliverability.
Pro autoresponder services are actively engaging in taking care of whitelisting/blacklisting, actively connecting with major online services to improve deliverability rates for their clients (more or less).
Any mass email sending activity from self managed JoeBlow.com domain will be at the bottom of food chain and ISP's and anti-spam filters would treat emails coming from there as "spam unless proven otherwise".

Aweber is probably best bang for a buck today.

Email deliverability is definitely one of the distinguishing factors of email marketing providers. By having it hosted on your own server, you potentially can save a lot of money, as you are not charged per send. you should try email marketer by interspire - comes as hosted or server install.

Most hosts have a limit on how many e-mails you can send out by the hour.

I use my software on my server and prefer it that way. It means I get to manage every part of it and I don't have to worry about mistakes or anything like that on their end.

    Also...No monthly fees. lol

I have tried both options, but for deliverability and functionality Aweber is hard to beat.

Cannot go wrong with Aweber or Getresponse (paid version)

I have used them both and they both work great. I would recommend using Getresponse over Aweber due to the cheaper price when you get a large list. Additionally they are a lot less strict.
