DON'T Do What I Did... A Reminder

I've spent most of the day revamping a neglected site of mine, checking it as I went along, and feeling quite pleased with myself.

Then, when I thought I'd finished, I checked again... and it came up with a holding page from another registrar!

WTF... I suddenly realised I had NOT renewed the domain. Probably like most of you, when you get the reminders from your registrar, you think, yeah I'll do it later... I've still got a few weeks. What a dummy I was. The lesson being that if you can afford it, put them on auto-renewal.

I know it's been raised before, but I think it's worth bringing up again, and it may encourage some of you to re-check your valuable assets right now.

To conclude, I ended up registering a very similar name (only one letter added) and I think it's better, but I will now have to rebuild the site.

Hope it helps as a reminder.

    Thank goodness for auto-renew!

I've lost domains before because I thought I had renewed them or had forgotten to renew them.

I've tried notecards. Lists. Etc. The thing that works best for me is auto-renew.

      G`day,

I create a folder in outlook express named "domains" then
inside that I created a folder named "renewals". I receive the
first reminder from my registrar (Dynadot) 60 days before the
      domain expires.

I place it in the renewals folder unread ... this then shows the
domain has not been renewed yet, when I receive the 30 day
reminder it goes into renewals folder marked as unread and
mark the 60 day reminder as read so I can see without having
to open the folder how may renewals are close. I also put the
      cost into my budget.

Once I get the 10 day reminder I pay before the 3 day reminder
and once it`s paid I move the 4 reminder emails to the "paid for"
folder setup in the domains folder.

I'm so sorry about what happened Dave... but everything happens for a reason... there are no coincidences....so in the end you ended up with a better, probably more catchy domain name Thanks for sharing with us!
