You've made the right decision. Building a list will sustain your business for a long time and you don't have to constantly chase for traffic if you learn to master the relationship with your list. All this is not difficult.

There are ton of free information on list building on this forum. Just do a quick search on "list building." Also Alexa Smith above have provided you with some of the best links. Good luck.

First get an autoresponder like Aweber, GetResponse.
Once you have this you will need to generate a squeeze page offering the customer something of value. Once they are in your list, build a relationship with them and only recommend products that get your personal seal of approval.

You say you want to build a list and promote affiliate products which is all well and good but you need to be careful not to take all this too literally. If you just chuck up a squeeze page, throw solo ads and other traffic at it hoping people will opt in then try and flog them loads of products you'll likely get nowhere.

You need to build a list around something like a blog or a product to see any real success. Warm people up before they opt in. You want them to opt in because they like what you do and want more not just to get a freebie that they'll likely never look at and then never read your emails again.

Why don't you? Did you just build a squeeze page with a freebie and chuck traffic at it? This rarely works.

reduce unsubscribe rate
write your serial follow up message
segmentize

Build trust with your subscribers,give massive value in evreything you offer,allways over deliver.people are savvy and will unsubscribe quickly iff you dont stand out from the crowd.Dont be a sheep and be like evreyone else be unique and differant.

There are many innovative ways to build a list of hungry subscribers. One such way is to join the many giveaway events that are appearing online almost daily. Another would be to create a free report or e-book to give away, and another would be to join forums such as this one to drive traffic.
