I have Never built an email list. Convince me to.

Hey guys, i have been an internet marketer (unemployed ) for about 6 months now and decided that this is what i want to do with my life. So far im only making a few quid a day (about $10 ) but i live in the UK so im still losing money living that i have saved up from my old job. Im 20 so i have a long career ahead of me i think.

Anyway, the term "your list" or "my list" is thrown around a lot here and i know it means email list, but what are the benefits of having people on an email list? Surely nobody ever buys anything they get in an email? Maybe its just my british cynicism showing, but how can they be useful, and are they worth building?

Do you bother and how has it helped you.

thanks in advance guys, and INb4 google it. Im kind of looking to have a rapport discussion here not just read an article about email lists

Email lists (prospect and customer lists) are the foundation of almost every successful online marketer's business that I know.

They are used to contact people who have shown an interest in what you're selling and giving away. They allow you to build rapport and a relationship with those who have shown they want to hear from you.

I'm not going to try to convince you of anything at this point!

If you don't want to build a list - don't. No one is going to force you to be successful. Do it your way, or learn what the successful people here do and then follow their lead.

Read through the threads in the WF on the subject. It's easy to search on any topic.

Put forth some effort to learn on your own and don't expect anyone to hand you a magic wand that will allow you to bypass the necessary education to learn how to do Internet marketing.

The best of luck to you,

      Steve

    So you need convincing?

Well, if you had an email list with a good relationship, you'd be making a lot more than "a few quid a day".

Surely nobody ever buys anything they get in an email?
I'm sure anybody who knows anything will disagree with you here. Think outside of the "IM" world - everybody still uses email marketing from Amazon to your bank.

Thanks for the opinion, but you dont do a good job at convincing. Its all good tellling me i can make money with it, but how? Im not looking for an ebook reply, just an example of how you have made money or had some success with a list.

How do you know that eating right and excersising more will help you lose weight?

As with anything people can try to convince you until they're blue in the face, but until you try it for yourself and see results you're probably never going to be truly convinced.

Well, for one, you can't make money with a list if you don't have one.

Second, making money with a list is very, very, simple, but it might sound like an ebook reply so you may as well read the ebooks, they'll probably be more comprehensive than most replies here.

Why would anyone convince you to? Search and read the thousands of posts already about email marketing and how it's most marketers highest income source and convince yourself with that info. Or don't...

Here are some search terms to try in the search function:

          "List building"
          "Email marketing"
          "email list"
          "solo ads"
          "ad swaps"
          "squeeze page"
          "optin"
          "relationship building"
          "sales funnel"

That should give you enough to keep you busy for days...

I have already made $15K in one day with a list of 500 people (no product launch). On average, I make $1.50 - $2 per month with each subscriber in my IM lists and $0.10 - $0.25 per subscriber in my non IM related lists.

If it doesn't convince you, then all I can say is: good luck!

When was the last time you landed on a website that hadn't got an opt in form to capture details?

Of course it works. How you make it work will be determined by your willingness to work hard at it - and make it work for you.

Nobody is going to teach you about email marketing in a forum thread. It's something you'll have to learn. There are many people on here in the game for a long time that still struggle to make it work.

I can tell you that there's a lot more to email marketing than writing 400 word articles on Fiverr. I'm not having a pop at you here. Just letting you know there's a lot more to it than whatever you take away from this thread.

All you need to know for now is that many regard their email lists as the only real asset they have in this business. Unlike traditional forms of advertising, email marketing gives you the opportunity to repeatedly market to a prospect - potentially for the rest of their lives in some cases.

What most do is give them a valuable free gift in exchange for their contact information. Instead of paying for advertisements over and over again, you only have to get that initial subscription and you have permission to market to that person for free.

Thanks for the replies guys, it certainly seems that thy are worth looking into! By asking you to convince me, i was by no means saying they dont work or are useless. Its just i have never looked into them and just wanted a concensus of opinion. Seems everyone wants a big email list. Consider me Convinced.

Maybe il update this thread from my yacht in a couple months with a link to my WSO ebook about how list building can make you a fortune I kid of course! If i found that secret it would never find its way to the keyboard

Convincing? How about making $300-$1k from a single mass email with little to no work? And the list I'm talking about was made 100% passive (similar to the landing page in my signature). Literally just posting the link in a couple articles/stories/blogs here and there. Nothing else (albeit over a long period of time).

So the really question shouldn't be why... but why not?

List building is the lazy marketers #1 tool.

1 - Instant Traffic, you can decide(manipulate) where you would like to send the traffic aka your list

2 - You already have potential buyers literally the click of a button away, I've probably read this a million times over but a list is an asset for your business. This would obviously only be true in the scenario where you take IM serious and not as a hobby.

If you can build a solid business without a list of any kind I'd be very curious to know the result there of and how successful that business is.

Well you certainly know how to create threads that attract some attention and stir up the pot a bit

In my experience, my email list has done more than just getting people to buy things from me.
    1. Encourages Conversation - With almost every email I send out, I encourage people to reply back to me with any questions they have. You would be surprised at the amount of people who respond with a question of two.
    1. Go Viral - In addition to being a great way to communicate with potential buyers, having an email list allows you to share potentially VIRAL content. If you send a cool video to your list and they dig it, they might share it and suddenly your video becomes more popular than the Harlem Shake.
    1. Dominate Google - It's also a great way to get backlinks to your site and increase your search engine rankings.

Goodluck to you in whatever you decide to do!

    All the best,

    Josh

You're very lucky to know about permission based list building at such a young age.

If you're looking for some cool potential stats, Andre Chaperon has them.

Here is a quote from him.

"I have a small list of 178 customers that earns
me $8K EACH MONTH in profit.

Another list of 408 customers that earns me
$4,060 each month (in pure profit).

I have many other (small) lists that result in
thousands of dollars whenever I send out emails.

(... or whenever the automated "systems" I use
      sends out 'em emails.)

I have a client that operates outside of the IM
space. In 2010 he earned a over $150,000 from just
      60 customers.

And continues to earn $5K/mo from that SAME list.

Notice that we are NOT selling stuff to monster
lists that are 100K in size."

I recommend you join his free bootcamp to learn more and trust me you'll be convinced and motivated after!

The first month I started using an autoresponder on my blog, I increased profits 400%

All I did was offer a freebie report, write a few emails that promoted the 2 products I was also promoting on my website...400% increase in sales.

All on the frontend too.. I just had a 5 day email series. To say it converts better is an understatement.

I can't blame anyone for being a skeptic. I didn't believe either until around 2000 or so.

I pressed the button on an email campaign and walked over a few hours later. I asked my colleagues how it went. They pulled up an affiliate dashboard and I personally saw the total. $2600. With a few clicks. We repeated that campaign throughout the month. Every time it produced $2k on average with each mailing.

Then, I witnessed it many more times in personal campaigns and client campaigns. $400 days, $90k days. It works. If you still feel you need to be convinced, go make some friends in the industry. Or go pull up the stats in the WarriorPlus.com affiliate area.

It's a great method of communicating with your leads, buyers and fans in order to promote your products brand and affiliate links.

    But..

If you have other methods of communication that work, then maybe you don't have as great a need?

My advice, is to ask yourself if whether or not email marketing can have a practical impact on your business.

    Cheers

Getting a list is pretty easy. Keeping it happy is a lot more difficult.

Once you start list-building treat it as your golden egg. Think LONG-TERM and don't rape it.

Besides all the advantages already mentioned when you have your email list, you can send your loyal subscribers to all the new pages you may create, to your Fan page, etc.

You have a group of people who like you and follow you. This means that you keep the traffic you got once (when they opted-in) in your list, and you use this traffic multiple times by sending your subscribers to the pages you want to promote, whenever you have something new to show to the world.
