How long does it take to build a list

Having a big list to make money is just a myth.
Few months ago i purchased many programs but i didn't make any money. Most of those IM gurus will teach you the same thing. But most of them are selling Make money curses. But never sold anything else.
Last month i made almost $3000 and this month hopefully i make more this month, Now i have a list but i dont send them annoying emails every 48 hrs saying buy my stuff. After 5 months i havent send any email selling something.
In my opinion is better to use those guys with big lists.

These are very subjective questions and are dependent on a lot of variables. For example how much time are you going to spend every day working on this? What kind of leads are you generating? What are you selling? How much does it cost?

In general, people’s success is directly proportional to how much time they put into something as well as the quality of their work. I don’t think anyone can place a specific time frame on this for you. It could be a couple weeks and you could work at it for months with no income.

It depends how big of a list you want to build and the quality of subscribers you want. There is no set time to build a list it depends how hard you work and what you do in your business. That being said..you could put up a squeeze page and make a facebook ad today and depending how much money you have to spend you could be getting hundreds of subscribers a day starting tomorrow.

I have heard of Chris Farrell. He is a good all around guy and provides good value to his subscribers.

Making a list has many different learning curves associated with it. When you first start out it can seem pretty daunting. I suggest that you learn how to make a squeeze page, learn copywriting and how to send effective emails.

It is true that "the money is in the list". It comes down to you having traffic on tap for whatever offer you decide to send them. Especially your own products later down the road.

A rule of thumb for me is for a "freebie seeker" the income ratio is around $1 per subscriber per month. So saying that you can have a list of about 2000-3000 before you start making that.

With a list of buyers. The ratio is around $2-3 dollars per month.

Just take time to learn, but don't forget the most important part about making it... and that is TAKING ACTION!!!!

A list of 1,000 targeted people should make you a couple hundred at the very least if you know how to structure your emails. How long it takes depends on your traffic generation techniques. If you're new to list building it will probably take a couple months.

What are you going to do with the list szaby? What are you going to promote or sell? To whom? A list is only a tool. Just like a hammer: You'll still need a plan or design, possibly a screw driver might be a better tool than a hammer...

They really are two unanswerable questions.

You can build lists quickly or slowly (I tend to prefer slowly, because quality and responsiveness are way more important than subscriber-numbers, and high quality tends to take longer). You can start to build a list within about half an hour of your first PPC ad, for example, if you know what you're doing. And the more you can invest in scaling that up, the more quickly you can build a list. (That's not what I do myself, at all, but some people do ... which is among the reasons your question's unanswerable). You can get one article syndicated once to a popular magazine or even a newspaper and have 10,000 targeted visitors to your landing-page over the space of a few days, without spending anything at all, but most people don't, and wouldn't, and many don't have the required skills and experience to do that, which is also among the reasons your question's unanswerable. Do you see what I mean? It depends on your skills.

Your second question is arguably partly answerable, but very subjectively, in the sense that different people can each tell you how many subscribers they had before earning $2,000 - $3,000 in a month, but even that isn't going to mean anything or help you much, without knowing what their skills were at the time, is it? Partly because the people who give you that information will be a small, self-selected group anyway, and most of the people who never managed to earn their first $2,000 aren't even here to answer your question anyway, and you have no way of knowing how many of them there were/are.

Here you go: I'm a small, self-selected group of one person, and in round numbers, I earned almost nothing at all for 4 months, and then in my 5th month I "suddenly" earned about $3,000, and I think I had about 1,000-1,200 subscribers in one niche and about 300-400 in another, at that point. (Did it really help you?).

You can build an emaillist very fast with for example safe-swaps.com, you can buy and sell solo mailings. So you can make it as fast as you want, they say you get $1 for each person on your list. So a list with 3000 people means $3000 a month...

It depends on how hard you work. you get out what you put in.

Well you could of got a couple on that list by the time you wrote that post.
The rest of your post can not be answered except in theoretical terms.

Unless you clone my list my income is not going to be the same as yours.

If you build your list with solo ads you might see a couple hundred bucks of thousands of emails.

Build your list off buyers your list will be worth more, the higher the priced item the more value for the list at first.

Build your list with freeby seekers your list won't be valued at much at all, although I still do freebys just saying a list of buyers is more powerful is all.

By the way. In the olden days I could count on 1.00 up a email. If you get that now you will be rocking. I could average my sales and gross to the number of emails I sent out in a year and it would be totally different for next year. Don't figure any price on each email, just work the list like they are your customers and your giving 110 percent customer service.

Well your goal here should be to build a BUYERS' list. A list of 5000 repeated buyers will easily knock out a 100,000 unresponsive list anytime.

How long is it going to take?

It depends on your traffic generation methods. If you do it by providing a freebie on your squeeze page and using free traffic it'll probably take months. That's not to mention that you will inevitably attract a good number of 'freebie seekers.'

Paid traffic works as well, and it's much faster, but as the name says - It's paid, so be prepared to do extensively learning on the subject and suffer potential losses.

You might wanna try working with the more established IMers to see if you can leverage on their reputation. This will earn you more credibility and thus speed things up alot.

You might even be able to cut down extensively on 'freebie seekers.'

Just my two cents worth here

There are many factors that you will have to look into. It will have to do with the quality of the traffic and the conversion of your landing page. I feel most of the people already have more then enough knowledge on traffic generation and the main problem is that they are not focusing one ONE traffic method at a time.

The time all depends on how many visitors to your site, your conversion rate, how many visitors sign up, gives your their email address.

To make $2,000 a month depends on how much you make per sale, times your conversion rate. Say you make $30 per sale, and your conversion rate is 1%, and you have 1,000 people on your email list, that's $300. So just adjust the numbers to reach you goal.

It takes time because you don't build a list of hungry buyers within a few days. It also depends on your traffic level and conversion rate. I think its possible but you would need to provide them good information as well.

Yeah you can make money without a lit but eventually you will want a good quality list. A good list of paying subscribers and not only freebie seekers. Some of my mentors have great list's. You start with a product and do some Facebook advertising as well as Adwords and so on but keep the details of every paying customer so that one day you have a list of people who will buy regularily from you. It's going to take time for a good quality list. Probably looking at a year or more.

I guess I really don't have to say much... Some good information on this thread.. If you want a big list then buy a bunch of solo ads.. If you want a "buyers" list then create a good product.. "straight to the point"

@szaby - That all depends if you are time rich and cash poor or cash rich and time poor. Building a list is generally a lot faster when you can pay your way in. Otherwise you will have to grind it out and/or be creative.

Making a big list should not be your target. Your target must be to have a list authentic subscribers. Go slow with the flow.

Slow and steady wins it every time

Big list is not the guarantee... relationship with the list is. My follow ups are not longer than 3 months and I send them everyday (I send good content with links to make their job easier) and every week 3, 4 times a link with an offer, every 10 mails different offer and different content regarding that offer.
After 3 months I usually shoot them broadcast, because if he didn't buy in 3 months, usually is searching for free things to learn...

I have built lists on non IM and IM niches. If you have some funds to purchase solo ads on buyer's lists the conversion on these is good and usually buyers on a list do equal approximately $1 per month per subscriber. Freebie seekers added to your list are much less.

Buyer list clicks cost somewhere between 25 and 45 cents per click. So not cheap, but definitely more valuable over the long term.

I have used safe-swaps.com to very effectively build a list. All buyers, sellers and "swapers" are rated with reputation scores. It does cost a monthly fee to be part of the community, but I have found the value returned worth the investment.

Depends on alot of factors that you put in:
-time invested
-money invested
-traffic source

if you have money to invest and build your list using solo ads etc you could build a list of 500 in one day but now that list may not be a very good quality list because they maybe just freebie seekers so to make 2000-3000 dollars if we go by the analogy that each member is worth $1 then you would need 2000-3000 people on your list to make $2000-$3000 but even this is an estimate because a list could be very unengaging depends on how you train then to click on your links and check your offers. So many factors to consider.

How fast depends on how much you want to spend on advertising plus if you have good conversion on your offer.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this... Do you know the lifetime value of your customer? That will tell you how much you can spend on customer acquisition and still be profitable.

And as many mentioned, the way you treat your list is way more important than the size.

The rate of list building all depends on the method you use and
the exposure you get. If you have a great product and JV
with a lot of people with huge lists then your list could be
build in a day. You could also pay for LEADS who may
choose to optin to your list.

Most times when a marketer gives an average for money
made from the list, it's practically the same as open rates
and click thru rates. These are all averages and there are
"good averages" you should aim for but no two lists would
be the same.

Lots of questions that are almost impossible to answer definitively...

I do know that everyday that you haven't started building your e-mail list is another day wasted. Most people who want to start to build a mailing list put it off for so long and waste so much time thinking about it and it is just wasted time. Start building the list and answer all your own questions for yourself because you're the only one that can truly answer these questions.

You don't need a big list. You need people that trust you and believe you when you say something important. Building a list takes time. The first and foremost thing to do is forum marketing. Don't miss a day. Go to other forums, as well. You need to spend about an hour a day in the forums or more if you can spare the time.

At least from 1 to 2 months to build a list. If you have got a decent website then it's not problem and you can build list immediately.
