What would you do if your SIG disappeared?

I won't mention the forum here but their switch to a new platform got me to thinking.

What would you do if WF got rid of SIGs and you only had your profile area to show your website?

To be honest I don't know what I would do. Granted I do not have a big presence here but in other forums I do and I like the passive nature of the SIG just being there.

I think it would improve the forums content quality, but decrease the quantity.

Personally, I know I would post less if my signature wasn't there, but I might also put a little more into my responses.

Whereas - the forum makes money by having more...and "decent" quality - so...it's kind of a hard call.

  • I saw some rule violation in my sig a few years back. Just redo it , you can read TOS if you are not sure.

      Just my guess . . .

I think you would see less posting by most of the forum members. It's no secret that frequent posting + quality responses to questions = credibility and brand exposure (if that's what's in your signature).

It wouldn't make any difference to me. I was here for a couple of years before I used a signature-file (and I removed the link to my site again for 6 months more, not so long ago, too, and just linked to a post in the forum).

I know that Steve's right, though (just above).

It would definitely get rid a lot of the pointless comments, and the amount of activity on the forum altogether.

Personally, I would still post here every other day, like I do now.

Being that I dont use my sig nearly as effectively as I could (and don't care) I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Warrior Forum accounts for 0% of my revenue at the moment so doesn't matter to me either way.

Sigs should just be a bonus traffic source. If you're relying on it, you need to focus on increasing your marketing skills!

I do get a tonne of traffic through my signature though and so I do like the concept.

It's a marketing forum so the traffic would be hit hard in terms of visitors to the forum.

Also it may not effect you if you don't use your sig but it would effect your potential customer base if you run WSO's as there would be less viewers on the forum and therefore less buyers.

Also as an internet marketer I would actually miss checking out some of the interesting links I see on here !

So how come I don't see anyone's signatures? And honestly I'm always afraid of marketing on forums because it seems like the people are more tight knight than on social media. I've seen people run off forums before and it can definitely hurt their online presence if it brings derogatory comments that search engines will find or if they are harassed on social media. Forums seem like a fine line to walk, of course here it would be expected, but the point stands.

I could not agree more about the content.

But even at that. Not having the SIG would make me post even less.

Like now, if I am not (routinely) active then why do I want to waste people time in clicking on my links. Sure I could have it active but its a personal choice for me. I suck at marketing BUT getting sales via a passive SIG is absolutely wonderfuf.

Thanks for everyone's response! Everyone pretty much said what I had been thinking on this other site.

That has been my thought for a while now.

I think here it would become a ghost town. Sort of the scene in "The Outlaw Josy Wales" when his small ragtag group get to that last town and there are about 4-5 people in the saloon. That is how envision a forum diminishing when a decision like this is made.

Sigs are more like calling cards... But blatant promotion such as "hey look down here" is not allowed. Even if hypothetically signatures are phased out, IMers are a creative bunch-- they can find ways to make up for the loss.

Signatures in a forum such as this are here to stay. They give a user his/her/its identity. You carry a name, a saying or a service. Be proud of it. (while following the rules of course)

And, also just think of all the non-internet marketing niche people such as those who have health/beauty/weight-loss/medical advice sites. Most of the forums in those niches don't allow forum signatures anyway, so the people with blogs on those topics are either posting there because they like it or using their profile for a backlink to be used by anyone interested in finding out more.

Anyway, marketers are notorious for making good use of the PM system to make contacts on forums where a signature link is not allowed.

    I'd post less.

But not for the reason you may think.

Personally, I could take or leave sigs. I get my traffic from other sources, and the reason I come here is basically to socialize, to learn, and to help folks if and when I can.

But removing sigs would slow down the arrival of new threads. Activity would diminish. And for this reason, I'd have less opportunity to post myself, because less was being said.

Yes, there is much more than the sig. You don't just post something irrelevant and expect to convert. If your post isn't helpful and meaningful in any way (to the OP), you may doing much more harm than good. I'm finding a lot of newbies missing this mark!

I think if you want to get noticed by people in this forum, you have to participate and be helpful. When you make valuable contributions, people are likely to check out your profile and build relationships with you. I remember what one of my mentors once said to me, "If you want to get the gold, you have to be golden first."

That said, I'm still glad that the WF hasn't gotten rid of forum signatures.

I like what your mentor told you. That is basically how I operate. I am a trainer so when I post solutions they are free for the taking. If someone values my help and wants more then they can click my SIG. Which, I have gotten a lot of students that way.

I'm not one that will post "Click on my SIG for more stuff" That's lame.

I definitely see geniune help as a positive element for any forum so removing a SIG is sort of a slap to me.

"WE value your posts/threads but we do not think you are important enough for any kind of residual benefit!"

It is nice to see there are many in here with a similar opinion.

They could be turned off in your personal settings.

I'm not thinking about my sig when I post. I think anyone with half a mind would see that I don't just post in threads having to do with what it is I have to offer there.

LOL - Funny you should say that....

I'm on a signature ban right now - I am not allowed a signature, but I'm still here so you know.

Maybe many Warrior's would abandon the forum, but really I'm not so sure - the forum is still an awesome place to network and learn - signatures are awesome, but they're not everything!

It's funny, everybody focuses on the signature and they fail to implement the other things Warrior Forum is GREAT for - like link-backs on threads - authority blogging system - and so many other little known secret's which I simply ain't going to expose to you right this second

However, I highly doubt WarriorForum would get rid of all signatures - and - I am suprised more Warrior's arn't sporting an image in thier signature - I know I will be (when I eventually get it back).

[note about signatures: be careful not to break the rules with silly lines like: "I mod the forums" lol, wasn't the smartest move in the book, even if it was technically correct; it was rather mis-leading! My bad.]

    Hope I answered your question,

Obviously, it wouldn't impact me very much if I didn't have a signature -- but I'm not trying to sell anything here. But maybe these forums wouldn't be so MMO dominated. That might be a nice change actually.

Personally I think if you're posting a bunch of fluff (or garbage) just to have your signature appear more in the forums, you're doing yourself a disservice. I've never bought a WSO (and probably never will), I've never clicked on a signature (and I have them turned off in my settings) so I'm probably not be a typical user. That said, if I were looking to buy some MMO services, I'd be far more interested in the quality of a seller's input than the quantity of their posts. Spend more time one one post and you might impress me. Spend little time on a lot of posts and you'll just seem like everyone else.

Continue as you are? Because you don't have a signature at the moment

Only joking, I'm just winding you up - but thanks for taking my point about the link-back system and other things Warrior's are forgetting to use.

This is an interesting topic - signature's are actually really good for promotion, I even considered making a copy and paste signature for the end of my posts to work around my signature ban - but that thought quickly disolved when I realised it's best not to push my luck, that was how I got the ban in the first place lol.

(Well you know what they say [they; including myself]: test everything!) lol.

Seriously though - why have you lot [Warriors] not got images in your signatures? The cost seems pittence for the advertising opportunity it provides, I doubt you'll find a better deal online.

[Be patient - a lot is comming this way soon before anyone grills me about myself not buying membership yet - it's in the pipeline, all part of the plan ]

    Thanks in advance,

      LOL NP

Between my family and friends trying to "Wind Me Up" I try to avoid taking issue with stuff.

I do keep looking at those fancy signatures and sometimes wish I could design something that cool BUT it just doesn't work out from a cost standpoint for me(I'm too cheap). Simple sig is good enough. lol

I'll add it back soon enough.

I meant to do this earlier since I brought up the subject of SIGs.

If you are getting ready to add a Signature to your profile then this is a MUST READ.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7622205

It will save you a ton of headaches!

Once you understand those rules then go here to add your SIG. AND don't forget the avatar rule as well.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/profile....=editsignature

And as Gh0zt has pointed out if you want to add an image to your signature then scroll down the page from the link above and you will see a button for doing just that. It's only $60 for the year.

Personnaly, I had forgotten it was there and available. As soon as I get my images in order I will be adding this to my signature.

Thanks again to everyone that participated in this thread!

I think a single-line text link sig should be it; it clutters the conversation to have graphics or multi-line sigs.

people who "shout" with big sigs lose credibility imo and I would never click. the bigger the sig, the less important/valuable they are.

post content quality is #1, not how big/noisy/stupid your sig is.

    Hi everyone - I have a question.

Like others, I do not see any signatures... no one has any, in any thread.

Do you guys see them? If for some reason they're turned off for my account, where would I go to turn this on? I don't see anything.

I was thinking about upgrading my account as well -- but holding off until I have more info on the size requirements, and of course, knowing that I can view others...

That will be because the option to see them has somehow become disabled in your profile.

Click on "User CP" - near the top left of any page here - and then on "Edit Options" in the drop-down menu. Then on the next page scroll down to the part headed "Thread Display Options" and check the box marked "Display signature files". Then scroll to the bottom of that page and click the "save changes" button.

      That will fix it.
