Thanks sooooo much for your help. It's appreciated.

My number one priority in life would be: (Please choose one)
1) More happiness

Well if you have money then you have time and when you have time to do things for yourself or for others you get happy... Don't now if it makes sense to you guys...

I chose more happiness.

of course my number one would be happiness ... happiness is something that you wouldn't want to let it go. happiness is basically priceless and it doesn't consume time.

Definitely Happiness.. with happiness you achieve what people are trying to get with money, goods, relationships etc. It's already the end goal..

Happiness is definitely most important. I believe it is imperative that we have the right mindframe to attract money and success to us. T Harv Eker and other popular speakers/authors speak extensively on how money is a mind game.

Winning the lottery will give us more money, but it will not give us complete happiness

It took me more time to think and after I've read the replies I've realized that it will be more happiness. On the other hand if I were to choose without thinking, it would be more money because if I have money then I can just relax and be happy. Although it will be too good to be true.

I would like to have more happiness ,because the world today it is a very sad place to live with all the wars and the plagues. The second priority would be to make more money by getting a good job.

You're right about happiness not being increased by winning the lottery. I read a report where researchers found that a person who's lost the use of their limbs (paraplegic) is about on the same on the happiness scale as the lottery winner is after one year.

Says a lot I think.

I guess I'd say happiness, it's what I need the most. The second is money but if you asked yourself why you need more money, I guess the answer would be to be happier. Of course it's not only money what makes people happy!

There's an old axiom about attaining things in life and it goes like this:
BE - DO - HAVE
It means that if you are a certain way (BE) you'll act a certain way (DO) and then you'll have certain things (like happiness) in your life. Of course you can choose to BE any way you want and that would dictate your results.

I first heard of it in a marketing book. Most people seem to operate like this:
HAVE - BE - DO
They want to have stuff so they pursue success and recognition to exclusion of all else. But what they usually end up with is, in the end, disappointing to say the least. Henry Ford was once quoted a saying that he was happier when he was just a mechanic. He died in ill health at 83 alone in his arm chair at his big empty house, called Fairlane, which was his estate in Dearborne.

Thanks Crystal brian. Looks like "more Happiness" is trumping the game here.
Interestingly happiness seems to affect many outcomes including physical health.

While I think most people would say more happiness, I am actually going to say more money. If you have the money to take care of the day to day, the happiness is much easier as well as the time. I mean, I can be happy when I am poor and happy when I am rich. I would rather be happy and rich.

Not only that it allows me to do things for others and spread happiness to others.

My mom had a saying which I find that makes total sense.

"Love makes the world go around, but it's money that pays for the trip!"

So, couldn't it be argued that if we all pursue happiness then everything else must fall into place? (having said that, I'd rather be miserable and wealthy than miserable and broke!) LG.
The way I experience genuine happiness is like an immune system. It may sag a bit because it's under attack by negative stuff. But then it snaps back to shape automatically all by itself. A type of self-healing if you want to call it that.

If the bailiff is at the door does it help the situation if your state of mind were to change drastically from steady happiness to something else? I've been in that situation and I've found that it definitely doesn't help at all.

Remember, there is a big difference between happiness and satisfaction. I may be happy but I'm not satisfied. There's just too much pain in the world for that. Too many good people that need some help.

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks Abul-Hussain for your reply.

I believe happiness is a state of mindset so I don't know about the "destination" or the "pursuit" description. Sounds like we have to chase after it or something.

If genuine happiness is part of a type of immunity, as I think it to be, then it's really a "discovery" more than anything else.

Also, once it's discovered then how can it go away?

Thanks for taking the time to write a reply. Hope everything is good for you in the UK.

1) More money
2) More happiness
2) More time
4) Other …

I think money is crucial point. If you got enough money, you will definitely be a happy person.

At 19 years of age a friend and I left our home state and headed out to travel. We arrived one day just outside of Austin Texas where we parked our car in a national park and set up camp. I think we had about $700 between the two of us. After taking a week or so to enjoy the surroundings we set out on our job search.
Both of us found employment in the construction field in a short time as Austin was booming at that time.

The interesting thing though is that even though we both were generating income, we ended up staying in that park for another 2 months.
In all honesty, I don't think I have ever been happier than I was at that time. As happy? Yes. Happier? I don't think so.

I think people often forget the little fact that "Life Is an Adventure and Not a Destination".
It seems that one can choose to piss and moan and make excuses, or can enjoy what they have at hand while working a plan of growth.

my 2 cents

More happiness. Definitely!
  • I would like more money to buy things that'll make me happy.
  • I would like more time to do things that'll make me happy.
  • I would like more relationships because connecting with people makes me happy.
  • I would like more opportunities so I can make more money to buy things that'll make me happy
  • I would like more knowledge because it will expand my mental capacity to be happy.
  • I would like to give to the needy because helping others makes me happy.
See the theme here?

Happiness is usually the end goal for almost any person. All the other stuff is just the means to get there.

Echoing what almost everyone has said here - definitely happiness. I believe that with happiness, everything else will fall into place.

And if I were to choose another top priority, then it would have to be "the power of letting go". Sometimes in life, we just have to know when it's time to let go and move on. The power of letting go is the best kind of power in this world... It frees you. So many people beat themselves up over things in the past and things yet unseen. Held back by their fears and insecurities, they can only dream of a happier tomorrow.

Just my opinion but my priorities are in the following order:

1) God
2) Family
3) Career (however you choose to make money)

Money isn't a prerequisite for a great life. The world is filled with people who have more money than most of us will ever see yet are unhappy and unfulfilled. I'm sure we all know some who make less than we do yet they live a very fulfilling life. After a certain point, money is just a case of diminishing returns.

I've always believed if you can't be happy in the current moment, changing whatever variable (whether money, relationships, etc.) won't make you happy.

These are my personal thoughts and I'm not trying to start a debate on anything.

Great. But wouldn't the love you say you seek bring you happiness?
If so then should we say your choice is happiness?

I agree completely. If some "variable" changes, and then in turn changes you, that would mean that the state of your life is subject to all forces outside of you. Can't be a good thing.

One of my favorite quotes: Man is free at the moment he chooses to be. - Anonymous
Indeed. I totally agree.
There's a quote I like by Alfred D'Sousa that goes like this:

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, some thing to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

Thanks sooooo much for your help. It's appreciated.

My number one priority in life would be: (Please choose one)
1) More happiness
2) More time
3) More money
4) Other (please note a short description)

Thanks again everyone!
My top priority is to find a way to help people more.

If you do that, you will have more happiness and more money. (And, when they repay the favor, you'll even have more time).

Great reply. I think you're right on with your observation about money and happiness. In the "BE - Do - Have" dynamic you have to "be" in a particular state first before everything that follows can be enjoyed. You're on the right track. Tell the world.

I'd go for "more happiness". More money is a must but it can't buy me happiness!!!!

Mine (I don't like using "more" as a goal):
1. Happiness.
2. Health.
2. Money (wealth).

Thanks,
Gilad.

Definately more happiness. The others will fall into place.

Look at some of the millionaires and celebrities who are miserable and yet have all that money.

If you have a million dollars and aren't happy you might as well throw that in the sewer, happiness is by far the most important thing in life.

Well Happiness is what we all want. And I was thinking about what happiness really is.. I figured out for me, happiness is feelings GOOD feelings on a constant basis and have a feeling that you will be feelings those good feelings in the future, like you know you will feel good. And I think this is most important.

Take care

Happiness is definitely top priority because it can't be bought by any amount of money.

It seems that "more happiness" is definitely winning out. But how do people define "happiness"? Is there any way you could/would quantify it?
