If Google, Facebook, Youtube, & Twitter Closed Shop . . .

In light of the - sky is falling - Fiverr thread, it got me thinking:

What would you do if Google, Facebook, Youtube, & Twitter Closed Shop . . ?

Many of us, of course, use far more ways to generate traffic - media buys, groups, classifieds, offline, lists, forums, and so forth - but a vast percentage rely on these traffic channels, and even for those of us who don't, it will likely still impact our business and cause us to make changes.

Would this affect your business? If so, what would be your reaction?

And before some clever so-and-so intones . . . no, I don't believe the closure of the aforementioned is imminent.

Fire away!!

Well you would have just lost half of it as gmail is owned by Google. So that would suck for all us emailers. Just saying.

I would celebrate and than spend the next 36 hours chugging red bulls and popping Modafinil as I built a replacement.

I guess I'd have less reason to slack off. But in reality, something would take their place in this scenario.

People want social media. People want to search. People want to watch videos of cats and epic trick shots.

Heck, maybe the play is to create their replacement.

If they ever close future billionaires will emerge.

I don't think this is something to worry about and if you are prepared for it like i am you could be one of them/us.

I like where this is heading.

    So, okay . . . we lose G, FB, YT, T.

Assuming you have the startup capital . . .

    What do you build?

I'm thinking: All 4 in one.

Google all the way, social trends come and go, peoples need for information is infinite (Until we get some cyborg stuff which downloads it all into our brains!!). So if Google dies (Assuming other search engines go bankrupt to) start investing in the information business, someone is going to need to serve it to the world.

Doubtful that it would be more helpful for the same reason none of those entities are tailored to small time marketers now. Internet Marketers aren't making them money worth sniffing at. Their consumer base is.

I'd go jump in my survival truck, hook up the trailer loaded with survival gear, and head for my survival cabin hidden in the mountains...

Because I'd have to assume that a major world disaster just struck and I'd be safest to wait out the carnage...

But on the really offhanded chance that all happened simultaneously, and left us zero transition time...

    I'd drive faster....

It is true that there are many other ways for generating traffic rather than Google, Facebook, Youtube. But, these are the best way to generate traffic. A huge number of people are using Google, Facebook, Youtube. So if they closed, it won’t be possible to get traffic easily.

Google is, functionally, only a SHADOW of what it once was!
I was only TRICKED into getting a facebook account. It is DORMANT and never had anything added!
I NEVER had a twitter account!
    OK, I WOULD miss youtube.

Frankly, until the ads and stock, I figured youtube would be a GONER! I HAVE said the same about the others, but youtube was the one I felt strongest about, because it is SUCH high bandwidth.

Things were certainly dodgy for them a few years back. This was before they cleverly introduced good monetization strategies.

What would you do if Google, Facebook, Youtube, & Twitter Closed Shop . . ?
Since all of them account for less than 2% of my traffic, I would just keep doing what I'm doing. It wouldn't be hard to replace that 2% either.

For business I wouldn't miss them at all. For other things?

Facebook - Would miss communicating with my Magic The Gathering playgroup

YouTube - Would miss listening to all that great music

Google - I really like their search engine. Hate all the others.

      Otherwise, couldn't care less.
