Google Places Help - Images

I have been using panoramio to upload my pictures to google places and for some reason when i try and upload a picture Google places says We are unable to store your image at this time.

Now I thought they were having server trouble so I waited a week then I tried it again and the same thing happened, what am I doing wrong and has anyone else experienced this problem.

Honestly a lot of people run into the same problem. It's tough to find the google image guidelines too. I usually mess around with the size and quality of the image until it gets accepted.

It's a bug. I'm a Top Contributor @ the GP forum and work directly with the Places team, so can tell you I know they are aware of it and are working on it. It just may be after the 1st of the year sometime before it gets fixed.

Well this is why I want to use panoramio as you can optimise the hell out of it and plus it's owned by Google and you have the option to add it to google earth.

I just add them straight in google places using their upload and never had any real problem.

The real key is to name your images with key phrases for your business like window-cleaners-richmond-sydney.jpg

You can do so much more using Panoramio, superior optimisation of your image, but i havent been able to upload from there for months and they dont seem to want to fix the problem.

Yup, still a problem and it sucks. I find direct upload works just fine, though. Make sure the meta data of the image is optimized as well as the name of the file. I also add the link to Panoramio in the more details section at the bottom of the listing. Internet users can't see it, but Google does.

That's exactly right. I upload the images from my computer, then in the more details section I do something like this:

    Panoramio Account : URL

I also make sure I open a Google Plus account for Business and add the images there with a link to the Panoramio account as well as other things like the Google Places listing.

Why use a third party image program. Why not just optimize and upload direct to Google places. The real secret is to give your image a good keyword name that compliments all the other info you have added in Google places.

A third party host like Panoramio works really well because you can geo-tag, tag and add hyperlinked anchor text in the description field. It can serve as an SEO'd image hub for everything you do online. I use the panoramio image static urls for embedding images in my article syndication work, business directory listings and anywhere else I can put images via a url. It's incredibly powerful.

I just uploaded pictures today to Panoramio and they still have not been accepted.

Is this problem never going to be corrected?

Probably not... it's been on for months and it's such a small thing, I doubt it's even on their radar.

Upload to Panoramio and do all the things to optimize them, then just upload the images to Google Places and put the Panoramio info in the "more details" section. It will work just as well.

If you are talking about under the "Additional Details" section under the Video section in the listing at the bottom of the page, viewers CAN see it and it looks like crap.

Google will not let you do the:

      Panoramio Account
      Panoramio Account
      Panoramio Account
      Panoramio Account

To enter all of them, you have to:

      Panoramio Account 1
      Panoramio Account 2
      Panoramio Account 3
      Panoramio Account 4

      ...to get them to stick.

Then all of that gets put on top of the listing and looks horrible.

While I don't know of anything in the Places TOS against it, I can't imagine this being something they would look kindly on.

Think I will pass on that idea.

Hmmm not sure how you understood me. I wouldn't add the static URLs for each individual image, but just the URL to the main account.

I'd appreciate a link to a Place listing showing additional details. I haven't seen that information on the visitor's side for a long time.

I've put over a dozen links in the additional details area and nada on the visitor side. As a matter of fact, I'm looking at one I recently did right now.
