Hi,

Are there any adverse effects of duplicate content? Take an example of article directories. Recently, I have downloaded a PLR articles pack from a website, which was giving it for free.

There are almost 100,000 PLR articles in that pack, but most (almost each one) of them are submitted to different famous article directories. Most of them are exact copies of the same article.

I have heard that Google and other search engines penalize sites with duplicate content. Most of these article directories have duplicate content, but still they are ranked nicely in Google and other search engines.

So, does duplicate content has any adverse effects on SEO? I need some advice on this.

Thanks in advance

Duplicate content is a MYTH !!! I wish people would stop spreading those lies....

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eza-first.html - Read It! Love It! Get To Know It! - $1,000's worth of free information on that thread "Read It All" ...

As for your PLR pack unless you know how to rewrite the junk or know how to reuse it, then trash it....

I think your sole purpose in life is to explain to people that duplicate content is a myth. I don't know how many times I have seen you repeat the same thing....lol

Keep spreading the word. Someday they will get it.

Duplicate content in regards to Google is when you use the same content across the same website. As James mentioned, there is no duplicate content penalty when you use content that has been published on other sites.

You can read what Google themselves say about this here:

Thank you very much for your reply. I was looking exactly for this. So, this means that there may be duplicate content on different websites, but not on different pages of the same domain. Tell me if I am right?

I was confused in the term "Duplicate Content" as I am also running a content sharing website. So, in my "Submission Guidelines", I have specified that duplicate content is not allowed even if it is OWNED and Written by the same author.

So, will this not affect my website's rankings if I allow content that has been published elsewhere by the SAME author???

One more thing: As English is not my native language, so I don't know what does the word "MYTH" means. Can anyone explain? Sorry for not knowing its meaning!

No it will not effect your rankings at all....

It means it's false or it's a lie.... Even the same content on the same site will NOT get you no penalty...

Again read the thread I linked to, trust me it's worth the read...

Thanks man for helping. You have solved a great problem for me.

Myth is like a fable or folklore. It's a story that has developed over time with little or no basis of truth.

Wow, I was concerned about that very topic myself. So many people selling the same packages to so many other people.

OK I just read what Google wrote and from what I read, it is pretty much a myth but they do make the suggestion of trying to make each similar page somewhat unique. That's easily done by simply adding a thing or two. Very simple. If you buy a pre-fabbed sales page, make slight changes to it to give it uniqueness.
