what are the rules in using YouTube videos for your website

YouTube videos are on a creative license naturally.

- do i consult the author first?
- is it okay to take screen shots?
- if my content is in the same sequence in which he describes his how to is that copy write?

Note the niche I am in, the content is non copy writable. According to copy write law.

I know that greed isn't good in this context. Should I work out a deal with him. His content has very low views and my niches are very unsaturated. If you were him. Does this deal sound legit.
- I bring you views, you enable a YouTube partnership, he has an undeveloped domain, I can supplement his domain with mine. However I run the risk of giving away my niche to someone who knows nothing about affiliate marketing.
- what would a back up plan look like?

It depends on how you use the videos.

If the videos on YouTube have embedding enabled, then it is okay to embed them in your website using the YouTube embed code. You do not need to contact the owner and make a deal to embed videos. The owner can disable the 'embed' feature if he does not want to share his videos.

If you want to take the videos (download) and re-edit/re-brand them and then use your re-branded version that is different.

Embedded video is just a link, the video is still on YouTube with the YouTube branding intact (including any in video ads). If a person allows embedding, you are allowed to embed it according to the EFF (an organization that specializes in online rights). If the person that uploaded the video allows embedding then they want people to share the video because they are most likely monetizing it, so you are helping them.

So, based on that, you should be able to include any number of YouTube videos on your site, even if that site is making you money.

Yes you can have a website with youtube videos and can put ads with it. You just have to have a DMCA page in your website including the following content:

"You site name" does not host any of the Video shown on its website. The site doesn’t host any of the content within its own server and it links to the contents uploaded by the popular Online Video hosting sites like Youtube.com, and other popular video hosts. This website links to these websites either directly or by an embed code. We cannot be held liable for content uploaded by members of 3rd parties’ websites.

"You site name" is not responsible for what other people upload to 3rd party sites. We urge all copyright owners, to recognize that the links contained within this site are located somewhere else on the web. If you have any legal issues please contact appropriate media file owners / hosters. All trademarks, trade names, service marks, images, copyrighted work, logos etc referenced herein belong to their respective owners/companies.

If a video is violating copyright and you want us to remove that videos/content or have any Query Contact Us

Embedding videos does not count as "stealing" since the original content is still hosted/displayed via the original website.
However, if the video is listed under the "creative commons" license, you can download it and post it as your own without any consequences.

If it doesn't belong to you and you tend to use it for any profitable purpose you definitly need permission to use that video.
Otherwise you can use it with embedding option.

You can post them on your site again utilizing the install choice on youtube which permits them to play on your site yet permits the client who made the feature to get credit and perspectives.
