I have a fairly decent presence on FB. If I was starting from scratch, with no knowledge, this is what I'd do...

Make sure I have a profile whose friends are interested in my niche. Setup and grow both a group and a page. Use my profile to kick-start and then research ways to grow my page and group via free and paid means. Add other admins (to secure yourself against account deletion). Grow, grow, grow. Spend time looking at the most successful such entities on FB and see how they monetize, then emulate their approach.

Lets say your niche is plumbing, well quite the boring niche, but you can do what I call bridge over. What I mean by the term bridge over is to just build a broad Facebook presence, so if your niche or company is plumbing, try sending out some really funny pics that would get shared.

This concept works in any niche, sometimes you just have to get creative. So lets say your niche is internet marketing, it still benefits you to have a broad range of presence on facebook simply because the individual that sees your post(s) may say hey, I have a small business, and I would like to know more about how I can utilize internet marketing to improve my marketing and business development.

In other words, use things that will hopefully go viral and get a lot of shares from everybody weather they are in your particular niche or not...
