EIN Requirements for Affiliate

Hey guys,

Don't know if this is the right place for this but I had a couple of questions. I'm currently in the process of setting up a new affiliate site and I'm being asked for either my SSN or EIN from the networks (Amazon didn't ask for this). Now, my questions are:

1) What are the requirements exactly for an EIN? Just fill out the online sheet and that's it?

2) Are there any fees I should look forward to? I know the EIN signup page said it's free to sign up, but what about yearly fees like with a business license?

3) Will I need to get another business license for a DBA bank account, or will it not be an issue since I just have an EIN?

Thank you for the help!

You can get a corporation online for under $100. You have to have a registered address in the state you choose which is usually included for the first year with most places, then costs yearly after that. Once you have the corp, you can get the EIN free on-line from the IRS.

No problem, I should have updated my profile with the country. I'm from the U.S.

Wait, so I need a corp? I was under the impression that individuals could just get an EIN, but I wasnt sure if there will be any recurring fees or if I'll be able to use the EIN to setup a separate bank account. If necessary I already have a business license if they do indeed require one, but it's for another company that I don't want involved/linked with this one if at all possible.

You can setup a LLC and assigned an EIN, that is how most internet marketers go about it.

Otherwise you can start by using your social security number.

You don't need an entity to be an affiliate with most programs. If you are an individual (a sole proprietor) you can use your social security number when they ask for an EIN.

A sole proprietor who has no employees is not required to obtain an EIN, but if you want to have one for your business rather than supply your social security number, you may get one. It is a very simple process and can be done quickly online: How to Apply for an EIN | Tax Help Advisor
