Why the sudden devastating drop in CPC?

Hi!

I started a new sister site to one of my high traffic sites and I've seen some nice traffic and good CTR. HOWEVER, somehow my CPC has dropped from around 0.20 to around 0.02(!) overnight.

Today I have had about 1000 clicks but i've only made about 20 bucks.

What causes this? Is it just a natural fluctuation or is it because of the new site?

The nagging feeling of what I could've made today is eating me up!

Any ideas?

EDIT: forgot to mention that it's Adsense

Well, it all depends on what advertisers are willing to bid and on competition. If a competitor dropped out, they're going to bid the lowest possible. I used to have a campaign that I was paying 2 cents a click. That lasted for a couple months before someone else found out my secret and started bidding against me.

Also, on a new site, it takes awhile for proper keywords to be identified. You might be getting tagged with lower paying keywords.

I am interested in what happened as well. I am also doing an experiment with dropping one of my sites that was only earning 2 to 5 cents a click to see if it will change the revenue on my other site. Not sure if Google factors in all your sites and if one is not optimized in Googles eyes, will it bring down another sites cpc?

Perhaps your recent movement has to do with the new ACTIVE VIEW VIEWABLE factor now on our Adsense panel? Mine is around 50% I assume that's not good.

I've noticed the same thing in just the last couple of weeks. If you look on the bottom right of your adsense opening page, you'll see a breakdown of what you have earned by type of device. Mine is very low for mobile. The reason? It is probably the new ad blocking software. Google paid huge bucks to stay white listed, but I don't think it's working.

Example: my traffic is about 50% desktop, 40% mobile, 10% tables. But mobile makes about one third of the RPM as desktop. Part of that is that I think people just aren't as int'd in advertising when they are on their phone. But I suspect another part is the ad blocking.

Thank you! Yes I think it must be the newness of the site that's causing this. I will keep adding content and I'm sure it will go up again
