why does adsense still display in some browsers?

Hi,

I put Adsense in a text widget in the sidebar of my wordpress site, and few days ago I moved that widget to the inactive widgets list. Yet... adsense still shows up there in the sidebar like the widget is still there (although it really isn't).

I double checked (no, I triple checked) to see if I did remove the widget from the sidebar (and I did), I also cleared ALL browser data (cookies, forms, browsing history, EVERYTHING), in all of the 3 browsers that I use (Firefox, Opera, and IE), and still, whenever I load my website in the browsers (except for Firefox, which seems to behave properly), the other 2 still display the adsense widget. I mean, WTH?

I can't figure out why this happens, so I can fix it. So, does anybody know what is wrong?

Have you tried going to Adsense and delete it from your site? Did you go through all of your coding and made sure every trace of Adsense in that space is gone? Did you completely uninstall or delete every trace of that widget?

      Hi tahoecale,

Um, I'm not sure what you mean by "going to adsense". You mean that I should log into my adsense account (and if yes, do what while in there?)

Also, there is no uninstall needed for WP widgets. You just move them from the sidebar to the inactive widgets list and they... well, they become inactive

And what really confuses me is that Mozilla Firefox does acknowledge this change, only Opera and IE don't. Wait, Chrome sees the widget, too (note: it should NOT see it).

      I'm baffled!

Are you using any cache plugins or server-side or cloud-based caching?

I'm using "zen cache" (formerly known as "quick cache" IIRC). I've been using this plugin for 2-3 years, and on ALL of my websites, and never had any issues with it (wait, I'm lying, it did screw 4 of my websites, one of which was this one, too, some 8-10 days ago when I upgraded it to the latest version. It turned all of my websites into blank pages, and I had to ask my hosting provider to fix it, which they did by renaming "advanced-cache.php" file to something else, at least that's their answer).

It's likely your cache plugin then. First try clearing the cache from the plugin settings. If that didn't help, deactivate the plugin and see if that resolves it. Or try deleting it temporarily from your website. There may be a problem or incompatibility with the new version and something else in your site since you had that problem recently.

You may want to make a backup of your site before doing any of that since you had that blank page problem. No telling what a bug in that plugin will do if you try to disable it. Do a search to see if anyone is having issues with the latest version.

Clearing the cache did the trick. I feel like an idiot for not thinking about this myself

      Thanks man!
