FB Ads: Questions about Pixel and Split testing

I'm about to start advertising on Facebook, but it's a jungle, baby!

I have read a book about FB advertising and spent many hours online figuring things out. Created images, and now I'm almost there. But still I have some questions:

1. When split testing, how can I make sure every ad runs in a different ad set and in just one ad set? Every one of my ad sets includes all of my ads. I created only one ad within every ad set, but now all ad sets include all of my ads.

2. Conversion Pixels: I don't get this at all. I'm just running one single campain (my only objective is website conversions), so do I only need one pixel? Or do I need a different pixel for each ad? If I need different pixels, on which page should I install them (my landing page always leads to the same Thank-you-page). Where do I install my pixel(s), in the ad set or in the ad?

3. Once I'm done with my ad, where do I have to click to submit it to FB? I don't see any fitting button anywhere.

    1. Maybe you cloned the ad set? Regardless you can easily pause the ads or entire ad sets with one click.

    2. There is only one pixel. If you track conversions/optins you place it on the thank you page. So create pixel(if you don't have one already), place the code on your page. then select the pixel by the name when you create the ad from the drop box. Just make sure you don't have the ad creation page open before you create the pixel or it might not show up. Restart if so.

    3. I don't see how you can miss it, you have to hit Save and Close the ad should immediately get the "In review" status.

    You should also put a pixel on you landing page so you can retarget those people with a custom ad.

    1. You might not want to place every ad in its own ad set, unless you're split testing different targeting options. Facebook's optimization is pretty good these days, so if you're split testing ad creatives and they have the same targeting options(in your ad set) place those ads in the one ad set.

    One extra tip:

    When you are running your FB ads and have all the conversion tracking in place, make sure to monitor your cost per acquisition (lead/sale) very closely WHILE your ads running.

    The amount of traffic you can get on FB is huge and I find that you can actually achieve a much lower acquisition cost at certain time-windows each day. Generally speaking, these are early morning and early afternoon ... so keep an eye out and pause manually if you have to. It might just make the difference in having a great campaign if you know when to pause and restart

      Cool, that sounds very helpful! Haven't heard that one before. I'm aiming for target audiences all around the world though (US, UK, Australia,...). So maybe it would be best to run a different ad for each target audience/country then?

      Also, how do you pause ads?
