Fortunately/Unfortunately this industry has evolved a lot in the past few years. Now you must focus on not only building a landing page, but a full site. Google wants to create a good user experience and therefore views a full site with content a lot better.

They are smart enough to recognize affiliate links from a mile away, so you are going to want to start putting in the work and creating a decent site

Yep! It happened with me and I was going quite strong with %50 profits and I was happy until they nicely slapped me. Now, I will have to build a complete site. But, I am not too disappointed as that's the only way I see myself succeeding. You've got to have a complete site. You can try direct linking with MSN and Yahoo, they are nowhere near as easy as Adwords. Google Adwords PPC Advertising is the best way to drive traffic to your website, but you need to know how.

    • Google does allow direct linking but they only allow one ad per domain. So if the merchant or other affiliates are bidding on that key phrase only the ad with the best quality score and/or bid will show.

Here is the info about how it works.

        Good stuff.

Alternately, you're probably better off building a review site around the offer anyway. It'll convert better usually.

And they naturally dont like affiliate links because there has been a lot of recent negative buzz around a lot of affiliate offers in general. Build a review site or some other creative way to promote your offer. Have content and keep it legit and you will be on your way to building a real business.

Actually there was a rash of blog posts about a month ago with lots of affiliates saying they got slapped or banned and the consensus was that it was due to having affiliate review sites.

I'm not sure it was really REVIEWS that caused the problems. Could have been the type of products they were linking to.

Here's one of the main posts about it, FYI.

This is true. Plus, people would start buying from your brand (your site) a lot more if they see that you're honest about things.

Yeah, google, yahoo and facebook are slapping people over this recently. There are still a lot of other ways to drive converting traffic though other than the slappers.
