Volkswagen finally stopped production of the iconic Beetle 2019 last year, and launched a campaign, aptly named 'The Last Beetle' which bid goodbye to the Bug. The campaign was created by DDB New Zealand, and literally removed the car in ads.

The ad rolled out in social, digital, print, and OOH media.

Interesting and clever.
And a bit of reminder of my one and only attempt to drive one.
I was blocked in by a beetle and the owner gave me the keys - just move it he said.
After 5 minutes trying to get into reverse I had to go and ask how.
Just push down on the gear stick first was the reply

I don't think the beetle will disappear forever. What's mostly to happen is that When volkswagen gets a new CEO, they will bring it back.

The most iconic car of the history will not be forgotten. This may be a marketing strategy. To come with a better and cooler version of beetle.
