Hi calling CPA experts, I would like to ask you guys ..

What are advantages and disadvantages of getting .info domain instead of .com, .net or .org ?

As starter I have limited budget to invest in setting CPA marketing campaign so getting .info at $2 is better than getting .com at USD8 .. but yet I need to ask expert is it good ?

Does it effect page ranking? SEO? traffic generation? site credibility for site visitor (i think its better than free blog)?

Any opinion or advices ?

If you are making a long term site you obvious want to stay away from a .info domain. Dot info domains are normally used for throwaway domains or for testing something out. However, I see no difference at all in SEO performance unless you are going to target a ridiculous niche.

Normally, if you SEO correctly a .info domain will make no difference. It just seems less professional for some reason. If you are going to brand a product, or sell something long term, stay away from .info domains. Also .infos are very cheap and it is easily better than a free blog.

I have seen threads on other forums about how google no longer includes .info domains in its algorithms due to (as stated above) them being very trashy poor quality sities.

I could put a link here in the hope of gaining a click in exchange for revealing my niche?

.info domains are still good for SEO with Google. I currently receive all my traffic with one of my .info sites from organic traffic.

.INFO domains are quite cheap but low quality and not professional. On the other hand, .COM domains are the best and professional, but expensive at least a range of $7.00 to $10.00 a year. When I always purchase domains, I only choose domain extensions that are truly professional, not like .INFO, .IN or CO.CC.

arissa, the short answer is no (with regards to SEO). The only difference here is the credibility factor when people see that .info URL, some people will think you're not really serious when using a .info, just as you've described from your experiences with the affiliate managers of the cpa networks.

But i read in Sedo's Domain Market study report that Sedo's top sales of domain extension
      .com 76%
      .net 10%
      .org 7%
      .info 6%
      .biz 1%

which means .info has good popularity almost close to .net & .org domains and far better than .biz ..

@arissa - it is up to the registrars how much they want to charge for the domains. I think they're trying to push the .info's because there are many more keywords available with those at this point in time. As I've mentioned, determine in advance what you're going to use those domains for. If it's a simple redirect and it's not for SEO purposes, a .info will suffice. If you want to do SEO work and your site will be seen by many potential clients/customers, then a .com would be the way to go.

And shop around a little, if you're getting hosting as well sometimes you will get the .com for free if you signup with the hosting company.

As mentioned its all about credibility. If you are going to push a campaign from the get go, no point in not getting a .com. The crediblity factor will pay off in short time.

The only time I used .info was when I first started on a moderate budget and was doing very small scale testing and my main keyword was already taken in .com form.

So .coms are very important because credibility it huge when presenting yourself online..people are naturally (and perhaps rightfully so) skeptical when they are online so its important to ease their apprehension as much as possible.

Ask any network market person, they will say .com

Ask 99.9% of people who are not in IM and they will not even know what you are talking about.

So it depends on who your market is.

      One man's opinion.

Your first choice for a long term investment should be a .com since it is more established and well known with the "common folk".

The main differences between a .info and .com are the letters...lol. What matters is the quality of content on the website and authority backlinks.

But I use .info domains all the time for testing CPA campaigns. My latest project is testing the theory of .info's not ranking well in SE's.

The .info domains just come across as professional in my opinion.

There's no SEO difference as stated above, but I stay away from .info domains at all costs simply because it sounds and looks unprofessional.
