CPA Using Dedicated Sites

K... so most of the CPA and other affiliate marketing seems to be based around these CPA networks. Using your own popular site or blog or whatever and having the ads and such show up.

How many people don't use CPA networks, but instead set up dedicated sites (I'm considering Wordpress based sites) with an informative landing page directing to a specific page to buy. No blog, or unrelated content. Just general information about a product.

For example, I do some keyword research and find keywords with lower competition but some decent search volume. The competition has really poor ranking in google (ie backlinks for the top 3 SERPS sites don't go above 30) so getting ranked for organic search will be easy. I then find a retailer with an affiliate program that sells a the product that the searches would be for.

It's odd because I feel like I'm asking a really stupid question but I genuinely thought my idea of how to do affiliate sales was the norm. After reading a lot about it, I've not heard anyone discussing using this method.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    I'm not sure what you're reading, but I would say what you've outlined is the "norm" - creating dedicated sites with good content to get high rankings, with links to various 'things'.

    The 'things' can be a 'typical' affiliate program, where you're paid per sale. Or a 'typical' CPA offer where you're paid per lead. There is obviously blurring between the two, and CPA networks have affiliate offers and affiliate networks have CPA offers.

    The question is where is your link to the offer going to be located?

    On your own dedicated site?
    On someone else's site (blogger)?
    From pay per click?

    Many CPA sites are simply not acceptable to Google when trying to link with PPC. Many third party sites can view link promotions to CPA offers as being spammer. That of course leaves creating your own website.

    Personally, I always like the control having your own website offers.
