What is allowed social media traffic?

When a CPA offer lists 'social media' as an allowable form of traffic, does this mean the traffic can come straight from someone's facebook page?

April - On the 'straight and narrow' it means the traffic can be promoted via paid advertisement on Facebook. Some people take the word "social media" and think 'ahhh I can spam Facebook and that's OK'. Although the Facebook spam traffic might convert well (as long as it isn't incentivized) it can get you in trouble with a network if complaints are filed with the advertiser and/or network.

  Ahhh....I see. Well, what if you have like a niche group or fanpage with a very targeted group of people? And say you are the group or the fanpage owner and you provide your fans with useful info on a daily basis regarding that niche, and every once in awhile shoot a good CPA offer their way....would this still be frowned upon with most CPA networks?
  
  Just curious because it would seem that kind of traffic would convert very well with the advertiser and you wouldn't be spamming facebook if the users voluntarily join your group or fan page.

A group or fan page on facebook would work well. Also you could try using Retweet.it to get others to Tweet your offer but they both work better if it sounds less like an ad and more like an inquiry or question.

facebook, myspace, etc
they should be fine. But i only tried once with simple email submit offer.
i havent got much time to advertise more, yet.=)

  Anything which comes to site is called traffic. If it is social media or any other method, it doesn't matter.

Hey April,

If I were you I would just email your AM and ask them. That's what I did and they are usually quick to respond with an answer. Make sure they say it's ok before you start because it would be horrible to make a ton of money with this method and not be paid. :/

  Hey guys, since you were all so helpful, I just wanted to update you and let you know I talked to all my AM's and they all said that traffic coming directly from a facebook page or group page is an allowable form of traffic to any offer that states "social media traffic allowed".

In addition to Facebook fan pages, Facebook Ads, and Myspace ads (MyAds), I would also add Plenty of Fish to the criteria of 'social media' traffic.

Plenty of Fish is a really great place. We have a few publishers who are doing well on pof.

Markus and Ben do a good job over there making sure to try and keep everything user friendly on the affiliate side as well.

PoF is rocks!!

The only problem is that they work only with CPM, not CPC, but it's just a small detail in comparison with their great targeting options.

Would MyAds really be consider social media? They shift just from being Myspace.com to display ads on popular Fox Network properties now.

So, MyAds is media buy on various networks, right?

No - it means that it's coming from the self-serve advertising platforms (or media buys direct from the sites). Paid traffic, that is.

Yep, thats precisely what it means.

Best bet is to try Facebok PPC tho, as that can generate a LOT of traffic for your offers.
