I mean, who determines what's allowed? You know? It's definitely unethical... But I doubt Google will say anything.

Its a pity that such things still exist. Even worst is that many people despite all the information available out there still fall for this... go figure

very risky business model... especially since they have fake endorses as well, when FTC specifically targeted fake endorsements and all ad networks followed suit... it's amazing to see that there are still networks allowing these promotions

Fake blogs. And in case you ever come across the term farticle .... that stands for fake article.

I mean the blogs are real in essence but the info on them is totally fake and misleading.... not a good business model if you ask me.

I love the word Farticle...never claimed to be mature

Marketing in itself is a wide spectrum of the combination of ethics, deception, and persuasion. This is true for online marketing as well as traditional marketing such as that by Coca Cola or Porsche. Very rarely do marketing strategies fall at the very ends of the pure white and pure black of the spectrum...and mostly fall somewhere in the middle.

We as marketers need to decide where we want to play. We can play towards the white end of the spectrum or near the black. Both have its advantages and disadvantages.

Flogs arent inherently unethical, but they are often used (particularly by CPAers) in an abusive manner involving fake endorsements and the like that make it unethical.

Pick where in the spectrum you want to play and play there.

Look, I have even seen offers in the form of flogs and "farticles" the fact is that they are used all the time. Do I agree with the methods, No. But they are most definitely being used and promoted.

The other thing to consider also is people who are doing this driven purely for the buck or those driven with passion. Those driven with a passion will provide something of value.

Matt, thats a great point. If your focus is on providing, creating, or delivering Value, you will be successful someday, someway, somehow. Thats how businesses are built....Value. Do things for a buck, sure maybe you can buy that ipad you wanted or that car you wanted, but good luck building a sustainable business.

Flogs may give you some success for a short while, but they're definitely not something you'd want in your long-term internet business plan. You're not really providing anything of value (everything on the flog is based on deception, including the fake testimonials), and you also have to consider the very real possibility that your leads generated from flogs may be scrubbed due to a high number of credit card chargebacks and complaints, etc.

Also to Affiliate Buddy, you should really not "out" other marketers landing pages. How would you feel if someone posted yours on a forum so it could be reverse engineered?

I think creating "Flogs" is just cheesy man. Without any real content to back it up in the long run it will never last. People want to see transparency and authenticity these days. GIVE IT TO THEM and you will prosper.

Either way, the restrictions and liability concerns will only increase in the coming few years. At one time, the FTC turned a blind eye to most internet marketing practices, but they are tighetening their grips.

To a certain extent, its still very much a wild west out here, but its changing. Just think about how much PPC has changed in the last 3 years. Its not that you have to worry about the FTC as much as worry about traffic sources tightening their grips. If you are a PPC marketer, a bigger concern than any personal liability resulting from your marketing is that the traffic source itself will change, as the major PPC platforms have illustrated.

But it always has and always will be a very changing and dynamic industry. As new methods and traffic die, new ones and new ways are born. Its the name of the game and its why IM rewards resiliency!
