Misconceptions

Finally I can have some times to write this down. For someone who has been in this aff business for some years, I learn many valuable lessons and many of them really cost a lot. Also, I noticed that a lot of the beginners enter this industry with a big-ass misconception: they think that they can make real quick money from it. It can't help, since many WSO sold based on that, just enter the special offers can you can easily see something like:how to make money in 10 mins, or how to make easy long term income with little amount of work
So, in this post, I hope to clear up some misconceptions that many many people still have until now. I don't want to rain on your parade, but we have to face the reality and find a solution

1- If you can't make money on small testing, pumping it up WON'T help, and if you can't make money on one traffic source, going for the others WON'T make much difference either

example: I'm helping CLAD support right now to show new people to use the soft(just in case if you dont know, CLAD is a famous soft to post on classified site like Craigslist). One a time, I came across this guy who need help. I asked him how he was doing on CL, he said that because he couldn't make much money with a few ads, he bought the soft to pump up the amount. I was shocked since I made my first 1k from CL just by posting 5 ads daily from 1 account. This guy just wasted $900 on a soft and and he basically had no freaking idea how to get the most out of it

Another example: some people complaint that they tried a good traffic source, but they never made money with it,like a certain thread here about TrafficVance. Now, let me tell you this: almost every traffic sources work the same way. They sell you their traffic, and its up to YOU to turn it in to hard cash. If you can't make money on Adon, clicksor, MT, leadimpact, going for big guys like trafficvance wont make any difference. The people who said that they made lots of money on that platform because they know how to make a profitable campaign on other platform, and they use this one to scale it up.

Same thing for Facebook and POF. POF is easier to make money, but if you can't do it on FB, then you WILL lose money on POF

2- You can't make money in 10 mins, 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. You have to treat this like a serious business and need proper planning for it. The reward can be very big IF you spent lots of time for testing and planning. Don't go for something short and easy. That's why I never buy any WSO here. Why? I know this can be controversial, but I have to say: 90% of the WSOs here are trash. Not just here, but also on Digitalpoint and **********. No one build a huge cash generating machine and hand up to you for just $10(or even $100).

3- No one gonna hold your hand and bring you to success. You will need to do it yourself. Oh, and don't try to apply for EWA because you heard that they send out training emails. They do send out emails telling us what campaigns are working good now and on what traffic source, but they won't hand you a campaign and tell you to do it. Remember, in this industry, everyone is your competitor, including the friendly AM you talk to everyday. They help you because you bring money to them, that's it, and not everything they say will be the truth, you have to test it yourself.

4- Not everyone is a big money maker like you think. It's easy to go around the forum, give some sound advice and make everyone happy, but it's harder to make money. The real money maker never waste their time on these forums. Why? Because they are busy bringing hard cash in their pocket of course. I dont say it applies to everyone, some are exception, but be aware

So, what to do? You can do 2 things:
-Give up and find another job to do.
-Continue to test, test and test, until you finally find your own winning formula and go up from there. You have to have the will to lose something small in order to gain something bigger(in this case,money). If you decide to go for the 1st option, I wont stop you, less competitors to me anyway. But if you want to do the hard way, yes, be serious in this business, treat this one like any other business out there and do it professionally.

    I think that treating this like a business and not a get rich quick scheme is the best advice anyone can learn. Past that - taking action is the most important part of making money in any business - and this one is no exception.

    Use the training material available to you - it's out there - find it. Learn the ropes, so you know the basics of a traffic source and then learn the rest by testing.

        No, I didnt mean that way, What I'm trying to tell people is that don't think of EWA is an easygoing network which share every secret techniques and campaigns that work. They really help their affiliates a lot and I can tell from me own experience, but don't expect them to hand you a free campaign, you will need to work HARD to be successful

    You make some sound points though I dont agree with everything. In general, making a lot of money online with CPA or outside of CPA is very real and people are doing it all the time. Its frustrating for me to see people give up so quickly. I have personally tried to help good friends and family get into CPA and IM and most never go anywhere even under my direction. I lay out a 6 month plan and a 1 year plan and tell them if they work their butts off and do everything I say, I am very very confident they can be doing 6 figures online. What happens...they go at it for 2 weeks and then try and find a shortcut or jump around and dont follow my plan, and then give up and say I am lucky or smarter than they are or whatever...all hogwash in my opinion.

    Your first point is absolutely correct and something so many people do even when they know they shouldnt. They start and test small, thats the right thing to do. When you find a winner, then you optimize a bit and start scaling. Once optimized then you go crazy and scale the freak out of it. Multiply campaigns and spread traffic sources etc. Too many people try and throw big money at campaigns and expect money to make up for their laziness to optimize. It doesnt. This happens in PPC all the time.

    As for traffic. Yes, people are crushing it with every traffic source. People didnt pick the wrong traffic source, they just didnt give themselves long enough to get good at it. Become an expert in any one traffic source and I guarantee you can make a great business out of it.

    Mostly agree with you here. You can throw up some small campaigns and make some okay money but to make the substantial money, you DO need to focus on the long term play. In general, the longer you wait to monetize, the more you will make. Spend 1 month working with a traffic source and then trying to monetize the heck out of it probably wont work. Spend 3 months really learning the details of a traffic source and your chances are much better. You can make money in the short terms but you should be building a business not just making money. Sustainable income is always better.

    Yep, the entrepreneurial folks are normally the winners in IM. Sure you can seek, but those that have it in them to find answers and solutions and who wont give up if they cant find a shortcut go a lto further than those who dont. This goes back to wanting it bad enough.

    Absolutely, just like any offline salesman, this happens online as well and perhaps more in the IM space. With that said, I can absolutely guarantee that the big hitters in any IM field roam these forums. Some silently, some are vocal. A forum is more than just talking to people and getting answers to questions, its a form of networking - and networking is absolutely critical in this industry.


    The opposite it true as well. There are people on here who do numbers that are insane but are more modest and you would never know it. Just like going to a conference, you never know who you are sitting next to. Some people brag, some boast, others are modest...ahh the diversity that makes the world go 'round.


    At the end of the day, you make great points. But I am true believer that if one wants something bad enough, then its within reach, no matter what. I believe even more strongly about this in the online world.

    Great no BS post. Work hard at IM or go get a job. You can buy every IM product under the sun and still not make any money if you don't put it to good use.
