Proper 202 Setup Questions

I understand what a subid is and how to set it up and that every network has a different format. I am not sure exactly how to set it up for tracking purposes.

I am using a self hosted tracking 202, which states, "If you do not set up subids properly, your campaigns will not track!" What should be subid be? Should it be the name of the campaign, landing page, PPV network, numeric etc?

I assume the url in the Affiliate Campaign set up of Prosper 202 includes the subid?

Then I import the subids back into prosper 202 to see what converted?

Thanks
Mike

I just happen to set up the self host version over the weekend as well. The subids are actually assigned by prosper202 when someone clicks on the link (it is a number). What you have to make sure is at the affiliate campaign setup step that the URL you put in is your tracking link from your network with however they track subids. The way I find this out is I generate a link with a subid in it and just copy everything up to the subid name I put in. The other thing to remember in setting up the url is that you have to include [[subid]] in the link, otherwise it won't put the subid on the end and it won't track it on the network end.

So if I understand correctly the URL I should put in the prosper 202 is

www.myaffiliateurl.com?subid=[[subid]] (which is what I have been doing)

I know the syntax is different for different networks. What are the [[c1]], [[c2]] etc?

    thanks

That's exactly it.. the c1, c2, etc are for if you need to pass more variables (adgroups, e-mail, etc)

    Hey Michael

Yup, your 100% correct there. And the C1 etc variables are just in case you want to add any extra tracking parameters. I've personally never used them as the tracking by Ad/Landing Page/Sub-ID/Keyword/Referer has been spot on for my needs

Thank guys, I appreciate it. So if I understand correct, I only need one landing page and I can drive traffic to it from different sources, say lead impact and Adon network. It will know which network converted when you import the subids from the networks back into prosper 202?

Will it know what keyword converted? I know on Lead Impact you have the option of passing through the keyword. Should this be used?

    Thanks again

For sure, you can just create one lander and drive traffic from multiple sources, then break it down in Prosper by advertiser. Personally, I setup seperate campaigns as what works on one source may not work on another and it gives you more control and options, especially if you are rotating (as you should be)

If you're passing keyword data in from the network then you can analyze that in Prosper to see what's converting and in fact, that's one of the most important things to track IMHO. It's the only way you will know what keywords/URLs are converting.

With Lead Impact there are 2 ways. First, you can check the Pass Through option and that will append "?keyword=keyword" to your URL. The other way is to NOT check that option and just end your URL with the %KEYWORD% tag. So it will look something like "t202kw=%KEYWORD%". I've found that Prosper seems to prefer the 2nd option - don't ask me why but with the 1st one I sometimes miss the keyword data.

You should also try to setup a pixel or postback URL at your CPA network. That way you don't need to manually upload conversions - you see them in real time. But I warn you, it's addictive watching those little green $ signs in spy view

    Hope that helps
