Some people just need to SHUT UP...

I don't want to be negative, but this is ticking me off. I'm looking for information on starting a company in a sector of the online advertising space, and all the info I see is downright WRONG.

I've seen thread after thread where posters have told others looking to do what I AM going to do to not do it because "they don't have enough money" or they "will fail because they don't know enough."

Funny thing is I read the bio of the owner of a similar company to the one I'm starting up and he started with $500!! That's it! He didn't even really know what he was going to do, just knew that he wanted to get in the space and now his company does over $300 million a year!

So please, when searching forums or asking questions yourself... remember that most of the people who reply trying to shoot you down don't know what they are talking about!!!!!

It's a huge problem for newbies to try to demystify some of the TERRIBLE info and advice going around.

*steps off soapbox*

*deep breath*

I feel better now

I agree with the sentiment, but Cash you can always call people out on their BS, hopefully it will stop them from posting more misinformation if its noticed theyre full of it.

    Jolly good rant!

In the end, if you are determined enough, you will find a way.. however often most people aren't determined enough

Did you ever think that these people are saying to stay away because maybe they bank on that market?

No. There are some guys/girls wanting to try out PPC, media buys, etc. and people telling them they can't or shouldn't try it. I know that I was FAR from experienced the first day I tried doing some paid traffic campaigns. It's the "doing it" part that will make you learn, not "becoming the expert" first.

          To the OP...

One of my favorite quotes about entrepreneurism...

"Entrepreneurs spend a few years doing what most people won't to live their lives like most people can't"

Most people aren't willing to put in the work and effort and most importantly not worth sacrificing to build a business. Too much work, too much time, too much to learn. All rubbish.

A real entrepreneur is willing to do whatever it takes to turn his dream, his vision into a reality.

So cheers to you my fellow entrepreneur!

True that, I have been working with a few traffic sources, learned a bunch a stuff and still no money from it. then started actually just doing the damn thing and right away ill know if it's working or not instead of just wasting time learning all these things.

It does help to know what your doing though.

          Good luck and

          Go for it!

It sounds like you know what needs to be done. The only way to test your system out is to do it.

There's going to be people trying to knock you down at every step because they don't understand. Keep your head up and don't let them get to you.

I love it when people doubt me or tell me I suck or that something can't be done.

Just motivates the hell out of me to do and make whatever I'm doing better then ever.

    Why?

$500 is not enough money to open a proper business. Lets see, if your credit is halfway decent and your insurance agent will get you into a plan with quarterly payments your first Professional Liability / Errors & Omissions insurance payment will run you about $350. That leaves you with $150.

In the state I am in it costs about $50 - $75 to setup an LLC or a file a DBA.

    That leaves you with $75 - $100

Add decent hosting for another $20/ month and you have $55 - $80 left.

Lets see, you dont have contracts written, you don't have the bankroll to broker anything, you don't have anywhere to meet with your clients. You dont have the money for a merchant account. What are you going to do with that $55?

What are you going to live off of?

No one starting with $500 is going to bother getting insurance, structuring their business properly or getting decent hosting.

Why should I encourage you to get into this business and add added competition for me when you're going to offer a shoddy product and cut corners. How do I know you will? Because you don't have the capital to provide quality products and services to your customers.

So yes, I will tell someone asking for advice on how to get started with $500 to keep their job for a few more months and bankroll at least a few thousand dollars so they can start properly.

Besides, nothing turns a customer off more than a desperate sales rep. I'm doing you a favor. When you have $55 left and rent is due, you're going to be so desperate you wont sell a thing.
