Have you Advertised an Affiliate Product for profit

I am curious if anyone here has ever used Google Adwords to host an ad which takes a site visitor to a single landing page. On this landing page you host your affiliate link to the product. Then, at the end of the day when you tally up how much you spent on Adwords versus the amount you made in advertising you ended up with a profit.

If you have been able to do this, what was the product?

  • From what I have heard Google doesn't like those kinds of methods and you could get your account banned. But as always I believe you can make money this way but at what cost?

About a year ago you would be fine using google for this, but nowadays you will just get slapped and possibly get your account banned. Create high quality websites instead or try other methods of advertising.

Tons of people have done this, however if you are starting out google is probably the worst place. Check out pof if you want to get started IMO

    • When this stuff was still getting through on Google, instead of making a landing page pointing to the vendor I rather set up a squeeze page to capture the lead and then email market to. However, it seems nowadays both ways get slapped (squeeze page/affiliate lander). This is definitely not the type of model that fits Adwords anymore...

Thanks for all the feedback. I see that using Google is not the best platform for advertising due to restrictions. I will have to do some research on other advertising avenues that would be cool with it.

I really like the idea of developing a landing page that serves as an email marketing squeeze. Then building up a series of auto generated emails to pitch the product. But, here is the issue as I see it...

Let's say I am pitching a $90 product and I stand to make $30 per sale. It may take $40 or more in advertising to get enough paid traffic through per sale. This would leave me without a profit

So what I am looking for are products with that golden line. The point where you can pump as many dollars into the advertising as you want
because you know that it is going to come out in the end with a profit.

As for the types of products that you have chosen to promote, what do you look for to find that golden line? Is there a specific threshold that you may look for? For example, have used the product yourself and see the value in it? Or maybe you look for a product that will gain you the highest commissions. Do you tackle a handful of products all at once and run tests to see which performs the best?
