How accurate are network EPCs?

I once read somewhere that you should double an network's posted EPC for an offer to get an accurate estimate. EPCs are generally lower because people test offers and may be getting non-optimized clicks on their link.

Is this true? Sometimes EPCs are so low and CPCs are so high that it seems impossible to make any money.

yes, the networks post their average, but in the same network, thereis people that has a EPC=0 and others have $1, it depends on how people promotes it. I notedthat top campaingsn many times thend to have riduculously low EPC's because everibodywnats to test these campaigns.

Agreed. Try asking your affiliate manager for offers EPC's for specific traffic sources.

        This!

The EPC's on your network are an average but don't give you any indication as to traffic source.

You may see epc's for an offer of $2+ and decide to go run it on POF or FB ads expecting good results, however, by looking at the EPC is doesn't inform you that the reason that could be so high is that affiliates are mailing it to their targeted email lists.

Therefore despite good network epc's, if you run the offer through different traffic you can expect vastly different results.

If you know what niche or traffic source you want to run then get in touch with your am who will point you in the right direction for offers.

It really depends on your definition of accurate. I'd say within each network it's accurate but you certainly shouldn't compare across networks. Also you need to take into consideration the different types of traffic sources being used

As Chris said, it really depends on your definition of accurate here. Any network's EPC will be 100% accurate to whatever calculation they are using. If they simply use the average EPC across all affiliates for the lifetime of an offer, then there is definitely going to be some guesswork for how it might perform for you.

If the network has a more involved filter for EPCs however, such as ignoring EPCs for affiliates with poor conversions or low earnings for an offer and they actively maintain a weekly/monthly average then you can assume it's fairly accurate.

I would suggest chatting up your Affiliate Manager about it - it's always good to build a relationship with your AM if you don't already have one!

Average EPCs, while mathematically accurate, aren't always an accurate indication of how well a campaign is converting.

An average EPC on a campaign can be misleadingly low if a handful of pubs click on an offer just to see the LP or send a bunch of poorly targeted clicks, etc. Just like a 0 on a test can greatly skew your grade average in school, a $0.00 EPC from one affiliate can drop the average a great deal. If you get a few (or many) $0.00 EPCs, then the average can drop drastically.

Of course, the same goes for an EPC that is exceptionally high, the average could sometimes be brought up by one or two very successful affiliates.

and what could be the reason behind the steep epc drop after 40-50 clicks on the offer (from the landing page to the offer)?

Are you asking about your individual EPC on a campaign?
