    Hi Outwest,

Starting buying media isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it can be done.

First, we recommend contacting more than 10 sites, the more the better.

You can ask the sites about the type of traffic they are getting and what prices do they charge, you can also check out tools such as Alexa –this can really help you understand the site’s inventory and level before you even contact them personally.

    Good luck!

For media buys check out buysellads.com (no affiliate) it's so easy to buy banner ads through their system. They also have a reporting system to track impressions, clicks etc...
I have a lot of success with them, also buyads.com is another popular one.

Before buying be sure to check out the site from the visitors perspective, see if you notice the ads (are they in a good place, are you likely to get a lot of exposure or get missed).

Also check out the banners currently running and the offer being advertised on the site.

And of course don't go for the cheapest, you want to concentrate on getting the most targetted audience to view your ads

The webmaster of those sites should be able to provide you traffic logs and statistics, you can also check out tools such as quantcast, alexa, compete.com, google ad planner, etc

    Hi outwest,

Sites like Quantcast.com and Alexa.org provide excellent traffic data, as well as visitor demographic data that you may find useful. You can also contact the site owner directly to ask if they can provide screenshots of their google analytics data or any other traffic data service that they have installed on their site.

Check out alexa and quantcast for all the information you need to know about the site. That will get you your demographics, as well as the current traffic and the trend that has been happening on the site for the past while.
