List Building Didn't Work for me in this case...

I am promoting a product as an affiliate. I get paid $1 for each free trial signup (without credit card). I am directing the user to the affiliate link directly because...

I tried building the list and sending the same offer to them, but overall, I get more leads/month when I send them to the affiliate offer directly.

I guess I am losing people in the process of verifying their email and then going to the affiliate offer to enter their email ID the second time.

This is a micro niche and not much products to promote as upsells. So I just removed my landing page with optin permanently and set up a domain redirect to affiliate link.

Looks like some times list building is not always recommended!

Or am I doing something wrong here? I have tried it several times. List building doesn't work in this case.

List building doesn't always work the best.

When Farmville/Cafe World were hot, I built lists in those niches. But they just were NOT buying from my list. I did better just with a pre-sell and send them to the affiliate link- no squeeze page.

I know a few other marketers who have had the same results with certain products. It depends on a number of things- your traffic source, the offer, the niche, etc.

I understand what you are saying and if your metrics tell you that you are getting a better conversion on that offer by sending directly to the affiliate link, then I agree that's what is happening.

Having said that, what you may be overlooking is that if you build a list you can go back to that list with your message and with other offers. The general trend that I see with sending directly to a sales page versus an initial squeeze page is that the sales page will almost always out perform on Day 1. In other words, the first time the sales message is displayed you get a higher conversion rate versus sending first to a squeeze page, capturing the e-mail address, and then sending an e-mail with the sales copy or a link to the sales page.

Where the list building tends to pay off is with the use of a well designed auto-responder sequence. Once you get a few days into the sequence the auto-responder tends to outperform the sales page and once the auto-responder outpaces the sale page, it is literally impossible for the sales page metrics to catch up.

Of course, designing the auto-responder sequence is a lot of work but it may be worth doing for a few reasons. One reason is that it may over time outperform the sales-page-only-approach, but there is another reason.

If you can achieve an overall higher conversion rate over time and effectively market additional products and services to the list, then you can afford to spend more money on your traffic. This allows you to outspend your competition, which means that you can go after better quality traffic, which should then further enhance conversion.

      That's the theory, anyway.

The value of capturing an email address comes from the ability to promote one or more offers to a person over and over again.

    You're not doing that.

You're only promoting one offer with one email. In order to get list building more profitable than direct linking, you need to find more stuff to sell to your subscribers and send out a series of emails, not just one.

List building are totally not recommended for newbies, that was always said.

They key is that you build a relationship with them.

Not like, hey I think I might earn some money if I send this.

I seldom read email that was sent from them, but the recent google hit haunt me, and Brad Callen send us tips to prevent from being hit.

So as you know, you cannot treat them as slave, you need to build relationship with them.

If you're using peerfly they have the new popads where once the visitor enter their email to your list (single optin) they are redirected to the cpa offer page in which their email will already be filled in for them
