The truth about Adf.ly and Adsense

In short: Doesn't work. Just got an e-mail from Google informing me that they banned my Adsense account. This means that they don't think that Adf.ly and similar traffic does work for them. Too bad, had made several thounsand Dollars. About 4000 bucks were displayed for the payment of April. This is now all gone and will be repaid.

Is started to use Adf.ly on my site around April 7th, so it took them over a month until now to ban my account. Looked so good. Sigh. On the other hand, other than with Adf.ly I was never getting anywhere with Adsense, so whatever.

all clicks are validated once a month, so that's why it took a month.

and well, if you read the TOS it's obvious google doesn't want us to pop our adsense ads with ppv and other kinds of contextual traffic.

Well, then they checked it twice a month. First, they added a huge sum to my balance after some days after the beginning of the month, and then they banned my account in the middle of the month.

And how is Adf.ly contextual traffic?

If you are looking to be in this for the long-term then you must really build a real business. That means actually putting in the time to develop a quality and well thought out business plan that will produce.

We have an adsense alternative, but we actually work with our publishers to help them generate real and targeted traffic.

Ok, so I started with Ad.fly last month and made about $100 bucks. I'm up to close to 200 dollars this month with 6 websites, all with adf.ly bought traffic. So it sounds like I will not get paid and my account will probably get banned?

Can someone else why? Obviously customers are clicking on the adsense ads, isn't that the point of the ads? To get people to click on them?

I both confused and sad right now.

I should note, I'm looking over googles ad placement policies and I am not violating anyone of them. All my sites are legitimate blogs that I updates on a weekly basis about different tops. I simply have google ad on the right hand side and send traffic via Adf.ly. When I started this, I just wanted to get traffic to my sites.

All my sites have contact us pages, and privacy policies. They don't gather any information from the user.

The past few years Google has been cracking down on publishers. I remember in the beginning it was the breadwinner for most affiliates.

Have you tried any other contextual advertising companies with adf.ly? You might be able to find a company whose terms allow insertional advertising.

I've been trying adbrite, bidvertiser and clicksor. None of them pay out nearly as well as google does with how I have it setup. I mean clicksor pays like 2cents per click compared to the average of .80-$1.00 I am getting for adsense.

Guess I will just wait and see what happens during the "authenticating" period at the beginning of June. I made about $100 in april with this setup. I am into the thousands this month, so I guess I will just see how it goes and let everyone know if I get the axe as well.

The irritating thing is I am not doing anything to persuade people to click on the ads on my website. It's just a simple blog site with adsense ads in the right pane. If they choose to click, it's because they found the ad interesting to click on.

Expect to get bans. Expect to diversify my using multiple accounts.

Fact is, Google is ok with paid traffic as long as it converts and you follow their other TOS. I personally know people who have been using paid traffic for adsense sites for over 2+ years making thousands a month with no issues ever.

That said, most people use third tier PPC networks...or even worse Ad.fly type traffic which simply does not convert very well for Google's advertisers. That is where the BAN comes into play.

There are ways to do this and mitigate your risks, but I'm not about to shout these methods from the rooftops. Use some ingenuity, don't get too greedy per acct, and diversify over a number of sites that strictly meet the TOS and you'll do quite well.

You'll still have a ban from time to time but the profits will far outweigh the losses if you stick with cheap traffic sources.

Thank you, I really wish I could PM on here but I still can't.

Basically here is my deal. Between May 1st and May 20th I accumulated $23,000 in adsense on 4 sites using all adf.ly traffic. I got scared after a $4,000+ day and stopped buying traffic. I'm just sitting here waiting for the ban hammer to come. I hope it doesn't.

I wasn't trying to be greedy, It all just kind of happened so fast. I'm happy with $25-$50 a day. Will I be any less on the radar if I tone down my purchasing of traffic?

Secondly, how do you go about having multiple adsense accounts? Don't you need to have bank accounts linked to them, business TaxID/Social Security Numbers, etc? I can see maybe a few, but constantly having to make new ones seems like I would run out of options.

I was doing the exact same thing with 2 other sites on adbrite, and they banned my account after 5 days and making $280. I not sure they appreciated me disabling all the CPM ads on my sites and only leaving up the good paying CPC ads. But they did give me that control, so I used it. They told me it was due to invalid clicks, which is bogus as I never bought clicks, just adfly traffic.

Oh lastly, what is an example of Good paid traffic? I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Be aware of making too much money too fast with adf.ly traffic going to adsense blogs....

If you only earned $100 in the month of April, then having a $4,000 day in the month of May is going to cause Google to look at you very carefully. It is too much too fast...

A couple tips : Filter your traffic through 1 or 2 free Web 2.0 sites like Weebly, LiveJournal, Typepad blogs, etc. - Do NOT place your adsense blog directly on adf.ly

Send to multiple different blogs with adsense, as mentioned before... have multiple adsense accounts in your name, brother or sister, Mom, Dad, uncle, cousin, grandma, grandpa, dog, whatever...

AND use some self-discipline and self-control start earning thousands of dollars a day on any new account or even an account that only earned $100 the month prior.

    Good luck to you.

We all make mistakes, I know I have made them too, just be careful. I am using adf.ly too but filtering it through 2 web 2.0 sites before it touches my adsense blogs, and I limit it to earn between $50 to $100 a day, no more than that. Usually 3 bucks from Canada then 3 bucks from Australia but I mix it with worldwide traffic sometimes too.

When I had $73 in less than 4 hours on adsense with adf.ly traffic - that told me it was something to use with caution - like using fire.

I am curious to know what happens to your account in the next day or 2. I hope you get paid, but I really doubt you will.

There are a couple good people on Fiverr who create new adsense accounts, I just had 1 created for my sister-in-law, who will get 50% of any money earned, while I do all the work... I think I will have to make her compensate me in some other way, but I digress...

Keep me (or us) posted here. My fingers are crossed for you wishing you luck.

I don't have much but would be willing to trade private torrent site invites, adword vouchers, or some cash for a method to use that would keep my accounts going for longer. Interesting thread. Im new-ish to Adsense. I've made around $90 so far in just over 5 weeks. I have been using a site called Addmefast.com though - so im not sure whether Adsense will take that as a legit source of traffic.

I have just a couple of questions anyway.

    1. I thought 'buying' ad.fly traffic was simply buying bots? I didnt think you could get clicks from traffic that way.

    2. I have 2 blogspots, both linked to adsense. If adsense bans one of them, will the other keep running?

    3. How the hell did you make $4,000 from fake traffic? - Impressive, but there's almost 0% chance of getting that paid.

    4. Can you get another adsense account simply by applying for a new one on a new blog just a couple of days later?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6354857].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author EdFarias
It's not fake traffic, it's Interstitial. Basically people sign up on adfly as a link shortening service and get paid when people click on the link. So if I wanted to give out a link to my 100 twitter followers, I could post it as an adfly link and make a few bucks. When the person clicks on that link it goes to one of the paid traffic sites (in this case one of my blogs), and puts an adfly ad at the top and makes the person view the website for 5 seconds. Once five seconds is up, they can click skip and move onto the original intended URL.

Hopefully I explained that well. I was getting clicks in that 5 second period, though the average time on my sites was around 13-18 seconds. My guess is people were impatient, or didn't know about the 5 seconds and just started clicking. Maybe the ads had something to do with why they clicked the initial link, I don't know.

Hi Ed, thanks for all this information. So with this services you just get your link Shorten and they advertise on your side , and you just post your link on social medias.
So in reality are you geting paid. 2x
From your adds and ad.fly ?
    Just for information.
What kind of account should I get.
Link Shriner and earn money or advertiser .
It looks realy Intresting I think I will give it a shoot

No, I don't actually do the link shortening portion of it. I just purchase the traffic from adf.ly.

Some people have lots of luck with their site with adfly traffic, and some don't.

Quick update: I got my Adbrite account reinstated. They basically told me they banned it because my CTR was too high, it was around 7%. I explained to them that all I was doing was purchasing traffic from adfly. They told me if I blocked traffic from adfly they would reinstate, so I did and they did.

I also emailed adfly about the adbrite banning at the same time. Their response:

"Oh right, it was the traffic was TOO productive.. I see. Well -
normally this is not a problem for our advertisers providing the
results are there. We run our internal campaigns on AdF.ly and we see
CTR in that league but this is a good thing because many of the
visitors are converting. That is they are clicking on the advert and
then also signing up, downloading, what ever the advert is for.

I'm glad they gave you the account back though."

      To Ed Farias:

So Ed, in the end did you get paid by Adsense in June, or did they ban your account?

This discussion interests me because I've been using Adf.ly to send traffic (USA and Canada) to 2 blogs of mine for a couple of months now.

So far I've been paid by Google 2 times: $104 and $247. Today, Google approved $129 in "FINALIZED EARNINGS" to be paid to me at the end of July, ALTHOUGH until yesterday I had "UN-FINALIZED EARNINGS" of a little over $300. So as you can see, they took away almost 60% of my earnings.

I'll now wait till around the 25th or 26th of this month to see if the money will show up in my bank account.

And a final, sad note: for a couple of weeks now -- since when my earnings accidentally spiked to $71 in one single day --, my daily earnings from Adsense have been anywhere from ZERO to $0.60, with just 1 or 2 clicks a day.

So it looks like Google killed my "golden goose" .... :<)

IMO, Adsense and spikes of traffic do not come together. And there is even a form on Google where you need to inform them if you predict an unusual activity including traffic waiting to happen...
They prefer gradual and steady increase of traffic and mostly clicks..

I did also buy traffic from swyze.com. But the traffic was coming very slow. And I mixed it with Adf.ly, so I can't say if it's not compliant.

By the way, I just saw, that over 200 000 visitors came to my squeeze page in one day. I maybe got 100 subscribers for that. Terrible rate.

So Adf.ly is useful for dirt. Either is doesn't work, or it's not allowed. And I have the impression that the visitors are very buying-immune, as I mailed my list about five times in five weeks and made no sales. And I got about 30 new customers who signed up for a service test period which is free, and zilch of them became paid members. So yes, Adf.ly-Traffic is also worth zilch...

Shoe on the other foot here. Imagine having spent all this time setting up ad campaigns and having the stats skewed from "fake" impressions?

Google has to think of both advertisers and publishers. and seeing as the advertisers are the ones paying, what side are they going to back?

This is what i dont get. I dont understand how the clicks are fake, someone is making the decision to click the ad, right? Unless there is something lse going on.

My account did get disabled, and i am appealing it. I understand they need to protect the advertisers too. What i dont like is at the click of a button, then say. Account disabled, all your earnings gone. We are just gonna assume all of it was invalid. I will be the first to admit i got too far over my head. Sadly a 1500 dollar learning experience.

BTW, Appeal denied. Account gone forever.

It's pretty sad they won't give someone a second chance. Especially someone that has had their account for 7+ years. I completely admitted I screwed up in the appeal, and simply asked them to tell me what was wrong so I could be sure to not do it again. They couldn't even bother to do that, the basically just flipped me the bird and said thanks for playing.

When creating the adfly campaign, did you just copy & paste your website URL in the website campaign box?

    Yes.
I'm going about it other ways now. Using other websites.

Though I think there is something going on with Adfly. I don't know if there are clickbots or what. I did a trial one day and just put up 2 CPA offers on one of my sites. I got almost 200 clicks in a day on those offers. Nothing converted.

I now know to be very careful when using adfly traffic.

Adsense just don't like arbitrage, period.

It was the killer way for gaming Adsense way back in 2003/4 when it came out, they introduced Smart Pricing first then they had to be more ruthless as people were still making a lot of money and the end users were not having a "good user experience".

      No problem sir.

I have tested the Adfly experience a litte more. Not with Adsense, as my account is still banned, but I use Adfly on one of my sites. And just today, there was a site in the Adfly IFrame with Google Ads (normal ads and a link block). I had tested the link blocks before, it opens in a new window without the IFrame, so that is okay. And today I also got to test a normal Adsense ad. One opened in another window, without the IFrame, and the other opened in the same window, with the IFrame also removed.

So the part in the user agreement of not allowing an Adsense ad to open in a framed or IFramed window or any other inclusion does not come into play. So I was banned for reasons not mentioned in the rules of Google. Great, really great.

So at least my third appeal can be "No, I did not breake the rules".

The frustrating thing about AdSense is that there isn't a real person you can talk to. If you send a support message, you get answered by a robot based on keywords in your email.

I started doing good with AdSense on YouTube though. If you post good videos that manage to get traffic they'll share the revenue with you.

As to Adf.ly I haven't been able to find a profitable campaign advertising with them, however, I actually made pretty good money by referring advertisers to Adf.ly. They pay by PayPal once a month and are reliable. You should join their affiliate program and earn a percentage of the campaigns your referrals create.

    Blessings.

I disagree with "Google loves to ban people".

I used to have an Adsense website displaying adult content, and what they did was sending me an email to notify that ad serving to that website has been stopped, and resumed when I removed the content and emailed them.

And also got a takedown notice (DMCA) fom a company whose PDF I displayed on my other site (although only a preview), and once I removed the content, Google People just happy about it...

So, there is always a Legit reason behind Google disabling publisher's account, mainly for those who didn't read and understood their ToS...

Yeah, guys. There is a whole bunch of 2nd tier search engines that is living of PPC arbitrage. Wont example? Look at Ask.com and the rising star, 5earch.com. They simply buy ads from Google and than serve those same ads back via AdWords. I didn't research it any great depth, but Ask.com is blatantly doing everything that is prohibited by G's Terms and Conditions. For example, they change G's JavaScript code so that if you click on a white space near the ad, that will still send you to the destination page, although you didn't click on the ad's link.

My account was banned, never got any of that 25k .
I created a new account, used 1 or 2 pages before my sites with adfly, less income, but still some. Account banned.
Got a third account. Used it 100 percent legit. All my sites were converted over to SEO, and I was just getting organic traffic. I made a $1.30 cents so far. Account banned, I assume for be associated with the other 2 accounts somehow.

I have no way of getting a google account anymore and thinking it will stay alive for long. I have appealed every ban explaining what I did and they were all rejected.

To the person that sent me a PM, I don't have 50 posts so I can't respond, sorry.

I've switched to adbrite (if anyone has a better idea let me know). FYI, early on I was using adfly with adbrite and they banned my account. However, they have humans to talk too so once I explained what I was doing and promised to stop, they gave my account back.

I see from the previous post that you're using adfly and use a bridge page (web 2.0 pages) before the traffic goes to your adsense page.

This still got you banned? I wonder how google found out about your traffic arbitrage since it's going from web 2.0 page.

So, do you use Adfly and Iframe the web 2.0 (ie hubpages) and the hubpages have link to your adsense page?

Well that does hurt but now you can get away from Google since you already have the traffic and get one that even pays better and doesn't think they own you.

I use clicksor alot and they pay up to 60 percent. I actually monetize with over a 100 ways and do this for a reason. It's because I know at anytime the rules can change and I would be in the freezing cold.
