Banner Ad Advice!

Anyone know of any good links, preferably PDF, that explains Banner Advertising.

Looking for a "How To" type that lists the different companies that supply Banner Advertising, how much you should be paying, what segmentation is available etc

I have tried searching on Google but can't seem to find any good guides (maybe they just want you using their display ads!).

I have learned about Adwords etc but like I said I can't find any good learning material for placing Banner Ads outside of Google.

Any Recommendations appreciated!

    Go for direct media buying, Search for relevant websites using Quantcast and Alexa. Contact site owners directly and negotiate the price with them.

    You will lose lot of money with third party banner networks before you start to understand whats going on.

      I second this suggestion.

      Best to go directly to websites and negotiate a fixed
      monthly price with them.

      Another advantage of doing this is you sometimes get
      to place banners of bigger dimensions than what's
      available through ad networks.

    Direct media buying is definitely the most beneficial in terms of money. Just takes patience. Not all webmasters will respond, and not all of them will even understand what you're talking about. But every now and then you'll run into a gem, and have a ton of traffic for dirt cheap!
