Another Prosper SetUp Problem

Hey,

I need a quick help with the installation of Prosper- I already created the database with user, changed the setup-config file and the next step would be to transfer the files on the server.
But how do I do that on Hostgator? Do I have to click on the file manager or anything else? And then, what do I do? Do I have to create a new folder, a new subdomain or anything? And how do I transfer it binary?

Thanks a lot!

You will need to ftp the files to the location of where you want to host it

Here's a link to the prosper202 support forums, this will hopefully help..

download some free ftp client like filezilla, and upload the files to your server to puclic_html folder if you want to use the domain root, or subdomain folder (you need to create that first in your control panel)

Hostgator has the ftp connection information the bottom left side of your hostgator cpanel.

Use the that info with something like filezilla to connect.

I really need help again! I uploaded the files now with FileZilla to the public folder (without creating a new folder or subdomain) and created registered at Prosper (on teir website). What now??

When I try to access my website now it doesn>'t even show the website anymore, it just says:

Warning: require_once(/home/myusername/public_html/202-config/connect.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: Not a directory in /home/myusername/public_html/index.php on line 21

It sounds like you're trying to install Prosper in a domain where you already have a website set up. That's not going to work.

You can create a subdomain from your website, or you can set up Prosper on a completely new domain. Either should work just fine.

I don't get it- Why do I need a new domain?

I opened FilaZilla and entered my domain name, Hostgator user name&password and the number 21 for port. Then I put the prosper documents in he public folder, that's it.
        Was that wrong?

What do I have to do instead and where can I see the trackings after the installation?

Sorry for all these questions, but I'm really struggling with this 'easy' installation.

Have you considered a hosted service instead of Prosper202? It's a heavy app to run yourself too -- on shared hosting, with any kind of ad volume, you're going to run into problems even if you manage to get it installed. It really needs a VPS of its own.

What kind of VPS would be sufficient?
    Hostgator offers several plans:

    - Level 1: Semi-Managed (with no cPanel or Plesk selected): 19,95$
    - Level 2: Semi-Managed (with no cPanel or Plesk selected): 29.95$
    - Level 3: Fully Managed (with cPanel or Plesk selected): 39,95$
    - Level 4: Fully Managed (with cPanel or Plesk selected): 69,95$

.. up to level 9. Thx!!

If transferring files to a shared hosting account is giving you trouble, you don't have the requisite experience to manage a VPS. Sorry to be blunt! You need to be comfortable on the Linux command line, with package managers, compiling code, managing users and file system permissions, configuring services, etc. That's the stuff the host takes care of for you in shared hosting, and in addition to getting nowhere without that knowledge, failure to keep up with it regularly will likely result in your VPS being hacked and hijacked. Even when they "manage" some of that for you and you pay extra for a control panel, you still need a certain knowledge of the hosting stack and system administration to get your websites set up. At the pricing levels they're asking for a managed VPS, you could just pay for a hosted tracking service and let them do all the work.

You should give Hostgator a call, they are really friendly and helpful.

They won't setup 202 for you, but they'll explain how FTPs work, and how to connect to your server.

Don't ftp p202, just upload the compressed package using file manager, extract it to your root domain, put your database name, database user & password into the wp-config.php, also via file manager, save it. Done!
