Well there isn't much to say about this method other than choosing good domains and a provider that lets you monetize on these domains.
sedo.com lets you park domains and cash in on the ads

Personally, I didn't deal with this method. However if you have some good domains you could earn some money, but you won't get rich with this

Some people also use a popular website's name and make a typo in it.
e.g. favebook.com But you have to be careful, since big companies don't like this tactic.
I recommend you to search for some high volume keywords.

I usually pick up old age domains from an auction site with a High PR, enormous Backlinks, and medium traffic per day. I then park the domain on a parking site. That earns me quiet a bit.

There are lot of sites where you can park your domain at.i have tried - Sedo and Godaddy ( Godaddy will charge you to park it) , but i have had good returns with Bodis.

You can also buy a totally new domain new. The trick is to find a searchable keyword domain name with atleast 1000searches and 1$ per click . Also, you cannot send traffic to your domain once its parked , so you may have to do some heavy backlinking and seo activities around the domain before you park it.

      Hope this Helps!

Could be 1 domain, could be 40 domains.

A common strategy is capitalizing on mis-type traffic.

You need to get creative about it, no one is going to want to share their exact strategy because if it works they're doing it.

Just to digress a tad ... If your friend is truly making money with this method, then it is a method that they have comfortably devised for themselves.

There is a real lesson there. It is nearly always better to devise a money-making method for yourself that you have seen can be fruitful from your own efforts, rather than trying to deconstruct somebody else's theory (many components of which you may not be comfortable with).
