Question regarding CPM

If I was to set up a CPM ad campaign with a company, how exactly do I get paid per 1k people?

Is it by unique visitors? Page views? impressions?

When you are buying traffic instead of paying per click which is ppc your are paying for 1000 impressions or views of your advertisement cpm I hope this makes sense to you if it doesn't clarify in your question if you buying or selling traffic.

It's not by unique visitors, you're getting paid by impressions.

1 Page view doesn't always equal 1 Impressions, 1 page view can be several impressions, depending on the amount of ad spots you have.

So if you have 3 ad spots which are filled, 1 page view would equal 3 impressions.

When talking in terms of CPM, you are usually the one doing the paying for the traffic. Typically for 1,000 impression to be more specific.

Affiliate marketers generally make money off this by advertising CPA/affiliate offers.

Doesn't really have to be. Depending on your niche, adsense can give you a better eCPM than some CPM networks (adsense pays you per click)
