What is considered "adult content"? My applications keep getting denied.

Hi everyone! In my endless research on ad providers, I kept finding links to this forum so I thought I'd sign up. This seems to be the place that is totally plugged in to what is going on in the ad world.

I'm extremely frustrated as I have applied for Adsense and to Media.net and have been shut down by both. Adsense cited the problem as being adult content and I'm rather confused as to what that entails. I don't have any type of pornography on my website, or anything even close. Most of it is inspirational/love/relationship content that is clean (all quotes by authors). However, the title of my website has the word "sex" in it. Is it possible that having the word "sex" in the title of my website might be the only thing that is marking my site as "adult" content?

Just a bit of info about the site as well: it is 2 months old, has about 300k page views a month and most of the traffic is driven from my Facebook page.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post my website link here which is why I didn't. If I'm allowed to and it helps, I'd be happy to post it.

Thank you so much in advance for your insights. I'm truly frustrated and don't know which way to turn right now as far as finding a decent ad provider for my site.

Yes, that sounds like the problem, it definitely is not helping.

    Why don't you change it?

Heya Greedy, thanks for your response.

I don't want to change it because of the branding. My website is attached to my Facebook page of the same name which has almost 200k members on it. My page's members have come to identify with the brand name.

I'm just trying to figure out if the word "Sex" in the name of the website itself is enough to get my applications denied despite the clean content, or if it is the content itself that is considered "adult". Is anything to do with love and relationships considered adult content? I'm so confused. :/

        Hi there
I have almost the same problem. I have a dating website, which doesn't have any nudity, sexual explicit images etc., but it is labeled as "adult" because it is for transgender, not for straight couples. That difference limits significantly my advertising opportunities.

So my suggestions is the same as Greedy's - to change the "sex" keyword in the title. If you do it you can enjoy plenty of tools which will help you to promote your business - remarketing, google display network, sitescout etc.

Yes, that is probably why it is getting denied.

Thank you for your reply, Boris. I think I'm going to give that a try and see what happens. On the Adsense forum, I was told that it is difficult for quotes sites to get approved for Adsense. I'm not sure how true that is but I suppose it's better to try than to do nothing.
