VPS or Shared Hosting

What is the max amount of traffic before switching to VPS? I'm only doing PoF and Facebook right now and I'm receiving about 200 visitors a day. My ROI is pretty good and I don't think I'm losing traffic from being on a shared server. So do you think it's still worth it to go the VPS route?

You might get a better idea if you ask your hosting company what your current resource statistics look like. Unfortunately, you're going to get a bunch of people blindly replying to this thread just telling you to get a VPS without knowing the actual usage.....

This is good advice also, it will depend largely on your setup though my thoughts are still valid.

Thanks, I asked my hosting company and they said my resources are fine. I'm also able to monitor inode and processes on my cPanel.

If you're not noticing any performance issues/loading with the site(s) and your resource usages are not hitting any limits, then you can disregard any "VPS" suggestions as it's more than likely not needed. Unless you need isolation, root access or dedicated resources, you most likely won't even notice a difference.

EDIT: Of course, as your sites grow & visitors grow as well, you may start coming close, if not hitting those limits. I wouldn't recommend changing until you start getting close to that..

That's true. Actually, I tried running POF Pro and I didn't get one conversion that day. I know POF Pro takes up a butt load of resources so that may have been the issue. Or it could have been the offer. Not sure.

          TT

VPS if you can afford to - the performance over shared hosting will be worth it. I use AWS and it's more expensive than shared/most other VPS services but I find them reliable and their services easy to administrate.

You're probably fine on Shared with 200/day, when you get into the High 4 digit 5 digit, you should go on a VPS.

No, not for 200 a day. You should be fine with a shared server.

You can stick with shared hosting for now. I'm also tracking my campaigns on shared hosting because I don't run a lot of traffic to my campaigns. Hence, I can manage with shared server.

It also depends on the type of website you are running. Website which consist of the plain HTML requires much less resources than e. g. forum. Also take into account the average number of page views per visitor -- the more page views per visitor, the higher resources you need.

However, with 200 visitors a day shared hosting should be ideal for 99% of websites.

200 visitors per day is just fine for shared hosting. Now if you are talking 4 figures visitors per day then you are better off with VPS.

You should be good for now. But you should really start to look at upgrading to keep your options open for growth.

You may use shared hosting from a2hosting company which is able to meet the needs of any webmaster.
With time you are able to upgrade it to a VPS if it's necessary for you.

    It's not just traffic.

It's also the apps that are running.
Even with 1 visitor, some need a lot of base resources.

With 200 visitors per day there isn't need to change to vps.
When you'll have at least 1000 per day ,then it will be the moment ..

With the amount of visitors that you have and the fact that your host said that you aren't using all of your resources, shared hosting would continue to be fine. There are other reasons to consider a VPS though. With shared hosting, there is potential that your site could be affected based on something that is happening to your "neighbor." A VPS can be tailored to the needs of your site as well to better optimize.
