How serious are the warnings by Google Adwords? I had to pause my ads!

I recently used Google Adwords for promoting my free eBook. Since I was using the landing page to collect names and emails of people interested in downloading the book, I got couple of warnings from Google. I called them and they said that collecting info from visitors is not permitted! I paused my ads so they do not close my account. How serious are they with this? If we cannot collect info from visitors, how else can we build the list using Google Adwords? What other options do you suggest? I know about Facebook ads and Linkedin ads as well as solo ads.

    Google is extremely serious, do not temp or test them.

    You could use Bing, 7search, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, PPV, etc. What is the ebook topic/niche??

    Perhaps you could split your ebook into two parts. To get part 2 people must opt in to your list. Or put an offer for another free report within the ebook.

    Yes, those warning are very real. I would say you are lucky you are getting warnings. I never did.

    I would tweak you page to be compliant. Then testing running your squeeze page on Bing Ads.... Bing and Yahoo's PPC Network. It works good.

    Yes I am sure they are very serious. My experinece is that any time you call them you get told something you do not want to hear!

    I have not used AdWords in years.

    It is so ironic that Google does not want you to collect information from users!

    Serious. I have basically cut adwords totally out. Even when you play by the rules you can very easily get banned.

    In addition to agreeing with the others about warnings being taken seriously, you need to know that paused ads are still considered in violation of policy since you could make them active again at any time. You need to delete those ads or change anything that is in violation of policy immediately or you will get banned.

    My best advice is contact your account rep or open a live chat with them. I do this EVERY time I launch a campaign on adwords to ensure I am compliant.

    You will find that when you play by the rules, the AdWords people are very friendly and helpful - There is light at the end of the dark scary hallway.

    You need an intermediary page. Kinda like those 3 step squeeze forms they have now.

    Few years back I had a great campaign running promoting a bingo offer, I got a few warnings but the ad was doing so well I couldn't resist putting them back up again. After the third warning I did stop the ad and I think these were automated warnings.

    However, many months later they closed my account with no warning which must have related to the previous warnings. I can still log in to the ads but they are in eligible status and the account is banned.

    So in summary they will be serious, it's probably flagged automatically if you get a few warnings.
