Facebook Ads - Newbie Question

Hello all,

A newbie to internet marketing here. I have a simple question I hope you can help me with.

I have set up a few content-filled websites with an opt-in form. I now want to get traffic using Facebook ads. I know Facebook allows a fair amount of targeting, but I wonder if it is targeted enough for my needs.

Let's say I have a website on the niche 'lose belly fat' or 'back pain solution' or 'neck pain remedy'. I can target this down to the rough age group of people I think might have a desire for this information.

That still leaves a huge number of people who don't want to lose belly fat.

My question is, is such an untargeted ad worth trying? I know only curious people will click, but is it too broad a niche? Is this type of niche simply impossible to target down on Facebook?

The niches above were just examples. I don't want advice particular to these niches.

    Hi Anthony - you can narrow down your target audience using other filters offered by Facebook ads manager:

    1. Male/female
    2. Interests - if your prospects are trying to get in shape, what would they be interested in?
    3. Behaviors

    Also, don't expect a huge CTR to your site from Facebook unless you are offering a freebie

    Without knowing your niche I can't tell you 100% for sure but I can tell you facebook has awesome targeting tools. Aside from gender and age you can also target by interest.

      Thanks for your replies.

      How does Facebook gather a person's 'interests'. Obvious ways are when people 'like' pages but what other ways do they gather the data?

      For example, if I have back pain, I'm not going to become a fan of a page about 'back pain'. How does Facebook gather this information?
